Interesting idea, except that if someone walks in the front door while you're taking a shit, or in the shower, it won't be too pleasant.

Lets see... shitter, washing machine, room for a cot, probably a shower down there...
If you throw in a stove, fridge, and sink, you wouldn't even need the upstairs

There's more to the apartment than just the picture I posted. I couldn't find a concise picture of the concept other than the model, but that didn't do it justice.

I personally don't like the washer and dryer being on different levels...I also think that the integrated kitchen sink and stove unit( while very neat and clean in a Scandinavian and cool architetural way) is not practical...this is for a single person that eats out alot...and given that space is at a premium in Japan...I would see this is a very expensive unit to boot....
cool concept though...

I think you're seeing several different apartment layouts.
but as a single person or a couple. this is nice
and the toilet on the same level as the bike... who knew you could view your bike porn in the appropriate place

Single person? Or couple?
A family of four can live in a 30 square meters apartment in Tokyo
Seen that, and that is not even cheap.
That, or you get a slightly bigger one, but you commute 2h/day each way to get to work in the center.
I think I might go crazy in 1h in living in a 30 sqm apartment, in two, with a chick. Can't even imagine in four.

I think you'd be fine in that amount of living space if that's the culture you grew up in. After thinking about it, the laundry appliances are mostly likely all-in-one that do both washing and drying.

Yep - lots of folks, most of the world have a lot fewer square feet/meters per person in a residence than the US. If that's what you are accustomed to then in won't be such a strain.
Places like that, super mod and clean always look good when you don't have shit...

Cool idea, but far from practical. It looks more like a Zombie Survival Apartment then an everyday home

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.
