First post...buying a monster

Hey forum,
I'm selling my r6 and buying a monster, as of right now. For those of you who have had sport bikes and have gone to a 798 or 1100, how is the transition for speed? Will I be bored with the raw power or is it comparable?

True, and I agree that it's about the fun of cornering but one of the things I adore about my r6 is the rocket power out of a corner to the straight. I just don't want to get on the throttle and go "I'm not really satisfied with the power".

Rocket power? Let see: 599 cc, about 120 HP @ 14500 RPM, and a whopping 48.5 ft.lbs of torque. Nope, not really rocket power.

Spring for a liquid cooled Monster and you'll love rocketing out of corners.  As stated above, the turns will help you fall in love with these babies.  FYI, if you can buy something with a steel tank.

apples to oranges. the r6 makes its power in very different way and has a totally different riding stance.

you wont have the top end pull but the absurd increase in the bottem end torque will be addictive. sitting upright with no wind protection will be either thrilling or totally ruin the experience for you.

personally I think the r6 is a fantastic track/race bike but would never give up my monster for one.  its a totally subjective thing, you need a test ride.

 1100 evo gets 100hp ~75ftlbs@6krpm, given its 500cc advantage thats not a whole hell of a lot to write home about

I would recommend an s4r(s) but he's only looking at 769 and 1100.

That's kind of what I was referring to...If i spring for an 1100 evo, I want to know that I'll still being going "wow" out of the
acceleration. However, from what I'm reading from monster owners, the cornering and handling of these bikes trumps the
raw speed of a track bike.

What is your bike history?  How many bikes have you tried besides the R6?  As others have said, a test ride of the bikes in question is key.

Get the Streetfighter 848 then.  Don't get a Monster.

Or here's a thought, go ride both of them and then make your decision!

Not to discourage you OP but I have a suspect feeling that he's going to want clipons and more aggressive rearsets coming from a sportsbike. Unless you're looking for more comfort.

Ive had r6's, cbr 929 and a 2002 r1.  Im telling you that my monster 1100 feels faster than all of them. The neck snapping torque is unlike anything ive ever riden. INSTANT POWER when you twist the wrist. None of that wind it up, lawn mower, weed wacking, high end shrill. Just raw manly GRUNT.  You might miss the high end speeds, your not going any faster than 135 or so.  But the monster has no fairing, so getting the bike up to around that point, or beyond really isnt as exhilirating as on a sports bike with wind protection.  Thats my 2 cents.
