Nice write-up, David.
Next time, we should all have a group maintenance day where everyone can lend a hand.

David, wow........ Shocked

Those rockers look like sh#t.......cams ok?  I'm curious, when the rockers are refaced, are they refaced to factory thickness dims?  and do you have to replace the cams because the cam lobe/rocker face surfaces no longer match to each other??  I.E., you're not gonna have to replace all of your opener shims are you? That would seem to add insult to injury....

Man, I wonder if it would be cheaper just to buy a new head!!  bang head

Whoa, that's some serious work done... impressive yet depressing at the same time.  While you were working hard, Vince, Joe, Frank, and me all ran into each other randomly at Cycle Gear/ExImport.  Weeeeeeiiird.  Unplanned meet and greet!

apparently, I need to take another look at the cams, but from what I remember, the cams didn't look like they had any damage (apparently you would see flattening spots on the lobes)

I will definitely need to change all my openers, but that's ok because I had to do that anyways since I changed to the MBP collets which require special opener shims anyways...

The rocker replating only costs 600 or so, a new head would definitely not be cheaper!

unfortunately it's not a done deal yet, lots of work left to be done for sure, 4V maintenance day to continue later

That's alot of work David. That write up really discourages me from ever trying this.  Tongue  I'm lazy that way.  Grin

I take it this is "normal" for the desmoquattro?  I would be fascinated just to watch one of those engines be disassembled.....curiosity killed the cat and all....good luck, stiff upper lip and all that....have a drink on me.....

haha, yeah, unfortunately, pretty much everything's fairly 'normal' except for me losing a collet down into the engine  Lips Sealed

at least the services get easier after the first one!  Smiley especially with the MBP collets...
