I hate craigslist

Who is Craig and where does he live?  I want to kick him in the nuts.

After the great success I had using craigslist to attempt to give away a free table, I guess this should come as no surprise.

I got two kittens from a friend last year.  One of them was seriously injured and needed surgery.  I needed to get them fixed but the vet made me wait until the injured cat was fully recovered.  While I was waiting, both cats got pregnant.  They gave birth on the same day to 9 kittens.

I decided to put an ad on craigslist to give them away.  I checked the guidelines.  You cannot sell animals or make requests for breeding (except in the erotic services section).  You can give them away for a small adoption fee.  There is a big warning from the PETA nazis about free kittens potentially being eaten or abused.

So I placed an ad to give away the remaining kittens.  It was flagged for removal.  I created a new ad and added an adoption fee of $1.  It was flagged for removal.  I placed an ad asking why the previous ad was removed.  It was flagged for removal.  I created a new ad today asking for a small donation but did not specify an exact amount.  It was flagged for removal.  These all get flagged within minutes of being posted.  What the hell is wrong with these PETA assholes that they keep flagging all the ads for kittens?  Is it better that I give them to the shelter so they can be killed by professionals?

Anyway I still have several kittens and the two mom cats that need homes.  The mom cats are one year old.  With the divorce neither of us will be able to take the cats with us.  So, either they go to good homes this month or it is off to the pound.

After reading the story now I gotta tell the wife about the cats. >:(

It may not even be PETA assholes, just the regular kind. Seems like there are people who take great amusement in flagging all sorts of stuff for removal for no reason.

Good luck finding homes for the little guys. Have you thought about putting signs up around the neighborhood or seeing if any of the local newspapers have free/cheap ads for such things?

Post up in the sex section that you have free kittens.

Or post them in the food section.

Or threaten to eat them unless they find good homes.

Doubt it's PETA. More like garden variety bored shitheads. Hell post a "missed connection" between your boot and the ass of the person who keeps complaining :)

I dunno. Out of ideas.
I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

i can't believe you are still trying to find homes for these kittens....

Have you searched for a local rescue?  Probably a better option if available...kittens would probably get adopted quickly, even from a regular shelter.

The reason they don't like you to give away animals is they often end up being picked up by some low life and abused.  The theory is that if someone has to shell out some $$$ for a pet, they may take better care of it.  It's obviously not a fool proof plan, but it's better than nothing.

That sucks that CL won't at least give you a straight answer.

Why can't you keep the cats?

I understand giving away the kittens.

the biggest problem with getting them from a rescue place is the ridiculous price you have to pay to "adopt" anything.  my local shelter charges 110 for an adoption fee.  im not gonna pay that much for a mutt dog... EVER.  i know they neuter/spay them, but that doesnt cost that much.  and they have a really long form you have to fill out telling them the size of your house, size of your yard, any other pets, your income, etc.  i wish i was joking, but they really do this.  i went with a buddy one time and they even gave someone in his family a call to confirm his house and yard sizes.

Seriously?  Rescue's are non-profit.  The adoption fee is intended to cover the costs of the vet, including spay and neuter.  Don't think it costs that much...take an animal to the vet and see what you get charged.  They also have to pay for the location of the rescue (i.e. rent, utilities, etc).  Same goes for a shelter...they are notoriously underfunded, and inundated with animals.

Regarding having to fill out a form...give me a break!  The primary goal of a rescue is to adopt the animal out to GOOD homes.  Hopefully they never have to rescue the animal again that way.  The form is a minor inconvienance for you, but a great help to the people trying to find good homes.  Verifying that the animal is going to a place with an enclosed yard is just prudent.  It would be irresponsible of them to adopt out a dog to someone who was going to keep them on a chain all day.  [roll]

Last year, when I separated from the ex, we needed to get rid of one of our two cats and I placed an ad on Craigslist.  Although it didn't get flagged for removal, I had some of the strangest people on the face of the planet contact me.  It was pretty easy to sort out the true weirdos from the eccentrics.  A few quick questions by email and it was easy to tell whether you would trust someone or not with an inanimate object, let alone a kitten.
Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing; however, they can still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

In Maryland, they come visit your home before they will allow you to adopt a dog or a cat.  They do not spay or neuter and although the fee is less, it barely covers the cost they put out to feed the animals (having had multiple animals at one time, I can only imagine those costs).

How do you take a pet, which is like a family member and post it on craigslist (or anywhere) like it's a lamp or coffee table you no longer desire?  ???
