Mobile home wheels ruthlessly butchered in service to a greater good... Hopefully ready for welding tomorrow afternoon. I'll start building framework in the morning.

Uhhhh, ok? What is it?

And is that axle bent or is it just the camera angle?

The axle is bent. I'm only using less than half of it.

I need a way to put some load on the bike with the laptop hooked to the ECU. Dyno-like capability without the fancy readouts.

Got it. So the wheel is going to contact the tub you welded on...

Although I wouldn't define it as a tub, I can see where you get that. That's the idea... a bit of inertia, plus the electric brakes should at least give me enough capacity to troubleshoot the details of some of the problems.

The end result has the axle cut off and bolted to a subframe bit not yet added to the main support frame (the rectangular construction), and the ramp-looking galvanized pieces attached to the top. About 1 inch of "stickout" for the roller, and Bob might indeed be somebody's father's brother. A little bit of wire, a spare car battery, maybe a mount for the brake controller, and maybe a place to put the laptop...

Are you going to use an idler roller to trap the tire?

Not according to current plan.

The roller is 14" OD. I have enough pipe, and another hub to add/tweak as necessary.

Upon further investigation, those axles are purposely bent to take the load that is significantly higher than the tire sidewall or the rim allowed.

I suppose as long as you position the wheel chock carefully it wouldn't be necessary.

I'm thinking I'll need to do a lot of things carefully Wink

It's coming together some more, but the monsoon just chased me inside before I could get pictures... Or finish the current stage of the project.

Grip tape on the drum?

What about balancing?

I've seen pictures of the grip tape coming apart in pretty short order. Some industrial stuff might work, but I haven't sourced any. I'm assuming I'll get a nice line of rubber in the center with some use.

Balancing... Wheel weights on the inside as necessary. Still need to grease the inside bearing so it spins well enough to tell.

Considering the weight of the drum, the fact the load is placed so far from the bearing center line, and the load itself, I might consider replacing a bearing that didn't spin well enough to tell. Grin
