Molly & Syreena, the Italian mistresses

I've got a 1999 Monster 750.  It has burnt up a sizable chunk of packing in one of the mufflers.  I had also wrapped the cores with header tape to give it a louder, more raucous sound.  I need to decide what to do.  I'm looking for a decent amount of volume and that deep sound like when you idle one with just the header pipes and no mufflers.

1.  Rewrap as tight as possible with fiberglass muffler wrap.  (quietest & least favorite option)

2.  Wrap the core with header wrap and follow with fiberglass wrap.

3.  Wrap the core with header wrap and leave it there with no fiberglass.

4.  No wrapping, just hollow carbon cans with the perforated core.  (might actually be too loud, but not sure.  Might not sound good either, but not sure)

5. Other suggestions?

Thanks

They make stainless steel wool packing, too.

No FHE, but it is my plan for later when needed.

#4 is the bet option...did that with my carbon cans and cut them in half.  3 other monster guys I ride with have done the same since.....perfect, deep, yet you know there is performance there.  I ran with open headers for over a year, and it just got embarrassingly annoying.  Can show pictures if interested

most embarrassing moment and it wasn't my mufflers.

riding on a 'safety day' ride with a couple of HD owners who had shorty pipes with NO baffling.... past a burial at a cemetary.  boo

HK - I'll do that when my header wrap burns though again.  I wrapped the cores before I found your response.  I had considered making them shorty pipes but wasn't confident in my cutting skills.  I'll give it a shot next time though.
