So curious to know what happens if I change the gearing. Currently the bike has a 14T/42T 525 setup. If I go up one in the back to 14/43 or to a 15/43, how will that change the bikes behavior?

A 14/43 will accelerate a little more quickly and have a little bit lower top speed.  Depending on your local cruise speed you may be at an annoying RPM during normal riding.

The change from 14/42 to 14/43 is 2.4%, which is not much, at 60mph your rpm in 6th would be ~100 rpm higher.
That's roughly the width of the tach needle.
If someone snuck into your garage in the night and changed it, you'd likely not notice when riding it.

Going 15/43 from your 14/42 is a 4.5% change; slight, but noticeable, 60mph in 6th rpm would go down about 200.

Guess my question should have been whats the best gearing for an S4R based on the following.

Pretty proficient rider with intermediate riding skills. Short commute in the city followed by weekend runs in the canyons. Enjoy my current setup but wanted to know if there a better ratio.....

Your current setup is exactly 3:1 ratio, and an even number of teeth on both sprockets.
This can lead to odd vibrations/harmonics.

Given that, and your riding profile and location, I'd recommend a 15/44 or 15/46.
Slightly higher and lower gearing than you have now, and ones that eliminate some of the harmonic possibilities.

Larger sprockets that last a bit longer, and are a bit nicer to the chain.

Never understood the vibrations. But this makes a lot more sense now......Useful bit SpeedDog.

Useful Cheers mate.

I think you got them all.  But, I've never seen this one:     998 motor/Gold Frame/Gold Wheels/Blue Tank/No Stripe

Thanks for confirming Duck-Stew. The gold frame/wheels and blue tank might have been a one off  my someone. Used Google images to produce my list.

Trying to find a rare but unique color combination. Very inspired by your Flight Cycles 900 that was black and gold. A fan of grey and red but also thinking something in the white range might be interesting.

Red/gold or any red color combo has been done, especially among the new Monster with those damn tank kits....

My experience has been that a bike looks best with 2 major colors playing off each other and a 3rd minor color to break things up.  If you have another color (like silver in for the engine & bits), that's totally acceptable.  It doesn't need to strictly adhere to a 3 color scheme, just 3 major colors.

Yup thinking is inline with you. Think I've got the colors narrowed down. Just need to figure out how to pull it all together.
