Hello everyone,

Recently i did a handle bar swap and a tail light switch...Since then, at some point my speedometer stopped working properly.

I dont know if it has anything to do with either, but maybe i unplugged something or did something wrong.

The needle still moves but barely. For example i know im going over 60mpg but it only reads 10mph.

I took apart the dash and rewound the needle to the 0 position and it worked!!.. but only for 10 min.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this, and knows how it can be fixed.. before im forced to take it into the shop.

Thanks everyone, any tips at all would be much appreciated! :)

Oh, and its a mechanical speedo

So, you have a speedo cable running from the front wheel to the dash?

I'm almost positive it did.

I think he's assuming his analog gauge is mechanical.

Sorry i misunderstood.

yes it is electric.. was thinking about the analog gauge.

Thing about the speedo cable..(and sorry in advace, as i am not as versed in basic knowledge. New rider)

is that i looked at the routing and it doesnt seem to route to the front,

but rather routes with other cables directly to the back sensor on the rear wheel.

Other places i've looked mentioned it routing to the front as well, but only the front break wires are there.

I removed the rear sensor thinking maybe it was torn or dirty..

seems to be fine. I've read that the magnets can go after a while.

But i did manage to fix it shortly just by manually pushing the analog speedo guage around to the 0mph.

As it seems to rest at the 160mph on the other side(which is strange)

The analog mechanical gauges route to the front.

The analog electric gauges are driven by a sensor on the rear wheel

I think you have a bad gauge.

It gets difficult to replace due to the immobilizer.

Do you have a red key?

ahhh i see

Yes, i have a red key...

What would you recommend i do?

New gauges from Ducati are expensive.

Since you have the red key you should be able to buy a used cluster and 'marry' it to your ecu.

The other option is to have your ecu re-flashed and the immobilizer disabled which will allow you to use any aftermarket gauges you want.

Nice, thanks for the suggestion!!

Yea i absolutely wanna avoid the cash for a new one if i can.

Fiddling with the gauge a bit more and seeing what i can do. Really hoping this is a small fix.

I sent you a PM - had a similar problem with a very cheap fix.

Mine was completely limp - it just sat there leaning against the knob below 0 mph. The needle is connected to a small rod that moves with the speed. Mine was spinning freely and not moving the needle. Maybe yours is similar, but has a little bit of friction. I just pulled the needle out, put some superglue in the hole, and put it back on. It's been working ever since, though I wish I'd set the need up to 0 mph when I glued it because is shows about 4 mph low now, but that's no big deal.
