Oil changes between services?

So after my first 1k km service, my local dealer, AMS, told me I should come in at 3k mi. So I did without checking the manual. When I went back and looked after being charged $150- for an oil change, I noticed it said the next service was due at 12k km. I asked the dealer about this and she said to take it in between every service for an oil change o.O. Anyone else heard this from their dealer? I think I'm just going to stick with the manual's recommended maintenance but was curious about others' experiences.

Sounds like a great way for the dealer to boost the bottom line!
Or should I say "stealer"?

A lot of people do change oil every 3 thousand miles, butt it is really not necessary with modern synthetic oils, and to pay a shop $150 to do it is not very cost effective. It is a pretty simple proceedure.

NO matter what the Service Manual says, I've done my oil/filter at least twice a year, why you ask, I spend way too much time idling in traffic . . . it's my own "scheduled maintenance" . . .

Now, being a dealer tech, I must do per the service manual but at the same time, there is an "annual service" to be done that includes oil/filter change . . .or every 12 000kms, people here wont do the 12K kms so, in order for them to 'maintain' warranty, they must come in at least once a year . . .

That makes sense...like 1 year or 12k km. But I put 3kmi since July. Good to know though.

If the dealer recommends you change the oil every 3K that is OK.  If the dealer says or implies this is required they are wrong.  $150 for just an oil change  [bang]

Hope this serves as a guideline for the bikes listed only . . . !!!

AMS charges $80 for a 4L jug of motul 300v, $20 for a filter. They go by the book for labor and IIRC book says half hour labor ($50).

Mobile one motorcycle oil from Amazon is 63 bucks a case of 6 quarts, a K&N oil filter 12.95, free shipping.
53 bucks for parts with some oil left over. It might take you a half hour your first time.
Just found a K&N filter there for just over 8 bucks.
