, but please don't! Super fun, but it costs more than it's worth. I did it because I'm a lost cause anyway.

Is this the new modified 900 motor you were planning? :D

You have a perfectly adequate motor.  If you want some performance gains jet the carbs, chop/core the pipes, and call it a day.

Maybe up the compression a bit, but the limiting factor on that engine is breathing.  IMO, live with "perfectly adequate" (it is) or move up to a 900.  If you want to modify, you want one with V heads or you are back to asthma.

No, that's the old 800 - now with 750 cases, 750 big bore cylinders and ported heads (same results)

just ditch the 750, it's too flawed to make better for worthwhile cost.

The last proper mods I saw on a 750 was from Ducshop in Atlanta.  IIRC, it was had full exhaust, BCM filter, jetting sorted, lightweight flywheel, and high compression pistons.  It didn't make but a few more HP than a stock motor with the filter & exhaust.  I was talking with the shop owner, and he had the dyno sheet and we were talking about how little difference it made with the high compression pistons.

If you want power, try to find a 900 with the 944 kit installed.

Please just ride it. You don't want to know what I've spent on mine for about 5 more HP. Neither do I.  [bang]

my 750 went from 65 (slip ons, jet kit, open lid) to 76 (slip ons, jet kit, open lid, big valves, 900 carb cams, high comps) and then got a couple more (different dyno) with fcr carbs.  so all that for about the same power as a 900 with slip ons, jet kit, open lid.

the 900 has an extra gear, stronger clutch and bottom end and more cred (it's bigger, dude).

my 750 goes great for a 750.  it's probably the missing gear that shits me most.  well, when I was riding it anyway.  but it's no 900.

Yeah running out of gears really gets me, otherwise the power is fine.  I've been wondering if it's possible to stick a 900 6th gear cog where 5th currently resides on the 750.  Could change the rear sprocket back to OEM or smaller, but then 1st'll suck.

My 750 hammered out 58 HP with FP jet kit, slip-ons, and no snorkels.

Since then I've fitted FCR39's, Ignitech, and advanced the cams a bit.

Years ago Duck-Stew and I built a 750 with hi-comps and 695 heads, that was a pretty snappy mod.

Like Brad said, it's not the greatest base to start modding from.
All the parts and mods are just about the same money as for 900 stuff, but you're starting out from lower HP.

You can fit the small-case 6-speed, downside is the neutral light switch hardware won't plug and play.
Lars has that trans in his "750".

I run 15/39 final gearing.

I'd like a taller 5th gear.
Earlier small-case motors had a taller 5th gear, but IIRC it was Pantah-era and I'm not confident that it would swap in.

the big 6 speed doesn't fit in the small cases.

the small 6 speed is like a very close ratio 5 speed with a low 1st gear added.  it's spread is wider than the 5 speed, but it's about 2 teeth on the rear from memory.  ie, for the same first gear ratio it's like having a two teeth smaller rear in 6th compared to the 5 speed 5th.

thanx ,,, have done just about about everything ,, when i can to try to get it runnin  an riding again ,- 2004 last time . started tinkering with again a couple of years ago ,, new tires , battery , carbs off an cleaned , a few other things ( simple basic stuff that would do sometime ) . but getting it to start , hold an idle ,,, different story . starter fluid with workin throttle ,,, but not to simple push-button start ,, warm-up an ride . not a high milage ,, 13 472  . think may be right about just workin with this ,, but not gettin ahead of myself . thats really what i'm wondering - while going through ,, heads , cams anything that may be worth doing  .  the 900 idea would be great ,,, but i'd really want to go into it to make it worthwhile so if i can get this just runnin ridin good - i'll put the 900 together after, from there .

I've got a neutral light?  Oh yeah I vaguely remember the last time that thing worked, 10 years ago  [clap]

What's this big case/small case 6 speed about?  I always figured it was just a cog, like on a bicycle.

For the OP, I've always intended to blow out the 750 motor and install a 900; problem is the 750s are virtually indestructible.  I've zinged it up to 9k rpms accidentally, several times.  Hooray false neutrals.  ZIIIINNNGGG!!! Oops.
