Then it's classified as 'building materials'...

also a no-no.

As much as I like a good fire...

I can use the money.

i think it's fantastic that the old house's materials will be reclaimed... there is a lot of nice wood trim in there  [thumbsup] and some extra moolah is nice too

I'm sure they would put in the extra work  [thumbsup] That's true DMF spirit - pulling together.

We'll just have to raise funds to match what the old material is worth.

DP: we just need to classify the materials from 'building' to 'fire'

Rough sawn sheathing boards bring as much as $6/lineal foot.

The old pine flooring could be worth twice that.

Not sure how many feet of everything can be salvaged, but it will be quite a pile.

It just seems wrong to put it in a dumpster or into smoke.

There's a substantial market in reclaimed timber alright.
There are companies that will inspect the building, buy the material up front and send a crew to remove it.
The used market endows some new homes with beautiful timber features that you otherwise don't see much nowdays.

I plan on exploring that option too.

This place is not post and beam so that somewhat reduces the 'draw'.

Reclaiming the good stuff from the old house is a great idea, and might be worth a nice pile of cash.  People pay quite a bit of money for the right stuff.  We have a lot of old, unused barns in the area and you'd be surprised what people pay for the old gray barn wood.
