Go Pro Chest Harness

Hi All,

With all the fuss being made about helmet cams of late and the tricky nature of how helmet laws may be interpreted, I was thinking of going the chest harness option for my Go Pro. I came close to installing it on my helmet, but held off when news of bikers being booked came to light.

Anyone used the chest harness over a winter road bike jacket? Is there good adjustability? Results, problems, advice?

I've used one over the top of a Dainese leather jacket with no problems. I thought I had a vid on You Tube with it mounted but cant find it now.

I always dismissed the idea of the chest harness... I didnt think it would be much good...  but... I like that ^^ 

I thought about the helmet mount... but... well... who wants to give plod reasons to come nit-picking 

So mine had always been mounted to the bike... but I'll be having another think about that chest harness now....

That does look quite good. His bike didn't have a fairing though, which may have obscured the picture somewhat, if present!

Also, as I'm a short fella, that might make it worse again! I wonder of the harness can be adjusted for height?

I reckon I might order a harness. Certainly worth a shot.

The main problem with Gopros on bikes is the vibration. You end up with a rolling shutter effect that makes everything look wobbly. Having the Gopro mounted on your body helps reduce vibration so it's a good thing.

I have my camera on my helmet as I like to have a chat! 

Tried a gopro mount on the bike but the vibrations were horrific and made it hard to watch but that was more the type of bracket and where it was mounted. I prefer the steady video from the helmet aspect but love the bike mounted aspect as well. Will try a different mount and see how that goes.

The rolling shutter effect can also be reduced by filming at 60fps rather than 30fps.

On the second gen Gopro's like mine, this means you will drop down to 720p rather than 1080p but it may not make a difference depending on your end use. The black version of the Gopro can file 1080p at 60fps I think.

Yup.  Still can be vibey depending on your mount posi.

I've found a couple of places on the bike where the vibes dont bother the vision.  Bolted to the rhs oggy knob wasnt one of 'em though 

You just have to experiment until you find something that works.
