1100S Sidestand

My bike fell on me yesterday, while I was working on routing a cable to the battery tender.  Ouch! I'm blaming the dealer who seems to be taking forever to get my rear paddock stand in, but it is probably the side stand that is the issue.

When I bought the bike the previous owner was short so had the suspension lowered and had apparently shortened the side stand too.  I've had the suspension put back to normal height (I don't know the details of what was done, it was a condition of the sale that this was rectified) but the side stand was not changed.  The bike does seem to lean over a bit more than I remember the old one doing and the foot of the stand doesn't seem to be quite parallel with the ground - it tends to scratch the concrete a bit as well.  When I checked the part number, engraved on the stand, it matches the one that is supposed to be there.  Comparing it with photos of my old Monster the stand does seem to have less metal, distal to the bend.  I don't really have proper photos of my old bike's side stand so can anybody take a look at theirs and confirm that mine has been chopped?  I don't want to order another one and find it is no different and I am just imagining things.

Thanks

The distance from the bottom of the black bracket, to the point where the 'leg' meets the 'foot' is 20cm.

I just went out and measured mine. From the center of the bolt to the bottom of the foot on the ground is 10"

Thanks.  So mine is 5.4cm short.  I'll replace it then with one that is safer.

My standard height m1100 sits awfully tilted on the standard length sidestand and I intend on getting a SSR longer stand.

Works out cheaper then a standard one new......for me anyway! Support a sponsor!  [thumbsup]

Don't buy cheap shit, it can cut your balls off.

Here is a strong recommendation for the SSR side stand. I put one on my M1100S and it is the bees knees!

It's probably a bit late now, as I've ordered a new one but tell me anyway. What's so great about the SSR one?  Surely if it is longer I would get the opposite problem, the bike would be too upright and prone to tipping the other way. The only advantage I could see would be that, when up, it would stick out further past the rear-sets so be easier to latch with your foot.

I felt that the stock side stand let the bike lean too far. I wanted it a bit more upright as that puts less strain on the stand mount, which can be a weak point. They also look cool as can be, butt that is just a bonus!

Any tips on installation?  Will I have any trouble getting the spring on and off?

I found it very simple. One bolt, the spring is easy, but I don't know how best to describe it, I hook up the spring then work the bolt in.

If Frasers have the part available I'll try this weekend (now my paddock stand is finally in!). Thanks

Fitted the new sidestand today.  It was a good 5cm longer than the one I took off, now the bike stands more upright.  The trickiest part was getting the spring back on but I managed this with a loop of wire and a pair of pliers to get a bit of leverage.  Thanks to those who helped out.

Have you got any pics of it on and how the bike sits on the stand?

I would be quite interested to see.

Cheers.

If I get time tomorrow I'll take a few pics (you will have to excuse the state the bike is in - it has been raining a lot here and so she is filthy!).  I don't have before and after shots.  I tried to photograph the two stands side by side, but the perspective didn't do justice to the difference between them.

This is the best I can do, the stock stand needed a block of wood to get where the new stand sat.
