M750 '00 Front wheel off center

Just completed a SBK fork swap on this bike. Once the wheel was reinstalled I noticed it was off center (to the left) about 2mm. Axle isn't bent and the forks slid right in. No interference with the brakes but they're fluid-less right now (custom Galfers). The wheel turns smooth but it did sit off center consistently in the calipers. This has the old cable speedo gear so no spacer on the left.

Is the brake rotor the correct offset the for SBK forks?

Yes. I'm actually looking at the wheel in relation to the forks. The rotors are both shifted to one side equally.

Which SBK forks are you using?

2001 996 forks. Bored out the upper clamp, shimmed the bottom. Brakes and axle are the same.

Is the speedo drive in the 996 '01 a different size?  I converted as well, but used the V2 spacer sold by motowheels since my speedo is digital and not cable driven.

I just bored and shimmed the same as well.  Same axle, same rotors.  Caliper mounts the same.  Did you say the rotors spin freely centered on both calipers?  If they spin centered on the calipers then I would say there is speedo spacer issue.  May want to confirm axles between the two bikes as well.  The later model axles are same diameter, but utilize built in spacers on the axle on one side.

The parts catalogues show the speedo drive is the same on '00 M750 and '01 996SBK.

The wheels from that era should be interchangeable.
Are you using the '00 M750 wheel?

Have you checked the wheel and rotors with the old forks?
Perhaps the wheel was incorrectly machined and you didn't notice with the old forks?

I did see a wheel offset issue on an M750, but the bike I'm remembering it occurring on was a '99.
Whether that recollection is correct or not, I'm not sure..... and I'm pretty sure it was the earlier small axle.

Okay. Thanks! I put the wheel on with a spacer I machined and the brakes line up fine. So I guess that's as good as it gets.  Having a brake problem now but starting another thread in that.
