S2R back end not gripping very well in corners.

Last week I went over a large patch of tar while taking a left corner at about 20 mph max.  The entire bike slipped over no more than a few inches to the right.

Since then when I take corners, left or right, it gives me the same feeling as riding in the rain on a newly oiled road.  Tire pressure is unchanged and I cannot feel anything out of the ordinary on either of the tires.  Front tire has about 6 k on it and the rear has about 300-400 miles on it.  Any ideas?

Maybe there is still some of the tire mold grease left on the rear. Should have scrubbed off by now though.

It's not a mental thing.  I wan't freaked out or anything by sliding just angry at the state of the roads in town.

I hear you. Up north here there is TONS of cracking to the asphalt which means lots and lots of those tar strips.

They sure do get slippery when it's hot out.   [bacon]

What tire do you have on it?

Can you put it on a rearstand and spin the wheel, see if the tire has gone lumpy or otherwise look not round?

I have Pirelli Diablo's.  I looked at the tires and they did not look squared or lumpy.  Could a belt have broken in carcass?

if you think there is some residual tar or anythhing on the tire, spray the tire with brake parts cleaner and wipe off with a rag, this will get off any remaining oil or tar on the tire so you can see if that is what is doing it.

carb cleaner works to.

Radial tires dont break to often. After you clean it, you should get someone you know to ride it and see if they have the same opinion. It could just be the surface your on is not too grippy and you never noticed till now.

No one's mentioned suspension: Maybe you need to dial back that damper and afford it some more give.  Maybe she's a little stiff in the corner and not settling down?

I tried that last night, it had more give but still felt unsettled.

A broken belt in the carcass will usually give itself away by a lump or out-of-round condition.

I figured out my issue.  I was out riding, suddenly my front end started pulling side to side and couldn't keep it under control above 60 mph max.
When I got home I discovered my front tire was badly squared out.  I had checked before I orig. posted but the tires looked fine.
Oh well time for another Pirelli Diablo [thumbsup]
