I basically grew up at Nellis AFB, so am I bit of a military plane junkie. The A-10 is definitely in my top 5 all-time favorite planes. Nice, simple design, and brutally efficient at its task.  Later in life I got buzzed by them a couple times out water skiing at Pyramid Lake in N. Nevada...close enough to see the pilot's faces. 

I just finished a book about the A-10s in the 1st Gulf war. Fantastic book if you like the plane (or any military plane really). The book is Warthog, by William Smallwood.

The A-10s train in the kills and valleys around here. I guess because the terrain resembles some other god forsaken place.

We see them frequently...close enough to count rivets.

I'll miss them.

We used to vacation in Myrtle Beach, and the AFB that was there had a bunch of them.  The were always doing low flyovers on the water.  I was also lucky enough to witness a military funeral with a pair of A-10s doing a flyover/missing man bit for the funeral.  That was something I'll likely never forget.
