A friend of mine is doing the work. We looked at it, but vetoed it.

Is he at a particular shop, or independent?

Any advice for someone who's going to do a full rewire?  Things you really liked?  Stuff that didn't work out?

I would build one from scratch using all Mil-spec wiring and small JST connectors. Take your time as this shit is tedious work at best. Sit back and study what you'd like it to become before jumping in the deep end.  Wink

Cool - thanks!  waytogo JST as in the brand?  Why do you prefer JST specifically?  I'm not familiar with connector quality, construction etc - are they high-end?

It's your call, there are several you could use.

Ditto the JST recommendation.

Several crimpers available on the market for them. I've found the PA-09 capable of very reliable crimps for that size, and to be probably the most reasonably priced quality crimper for them on the market. Several ebay vendors carry them. Beware of inferior crimpers!

"mil spec" is pretty broad, and can get pricey without needing to.  i use a mil spec for the wires on the pickups on my pantahs, but that is because it is submerged in oil -- teflon, heat resistant, oil resistant, etc etc.

For external wires, look to the SAE wire standards TXL, SXL and GXL.  They are automotive quality heat and solvent proof (not for submersion though)..  and much cheaper than the "mil spec" label.  You can't get them at Auto Zone, but you can find them online and in colors and with stripes if you want.

I don't even know what that means.  Tongue

It means you left out so much of my post that your quote has no context!  ;-)

I don't know what that means 'tight wad'. Does that explain it better.  Kiss
