So I have a chance to buy a Sport 1000S (bubble fairing) with 6k miles and Termis. Problem is to do so I'd need to sell the 2015 Diavel I just bought last year that has 1K miles on it now. Diavel is comfy and a great engine with all the latest bells and whistles but the Sport 1000s is a beautiful air cooled classic that's no longer made and they're going up in value. I should add that I do have an air cooled Monster 620 that I will never sell. So factor that in to the riding equation. Thoughts?

I highly doubt the sport classic is going up in value.

Well you can doubt it but they are. Original MSRP was $13k now they go for anywhere from $15k to 18k depending on milage, condition, color scheme etc. I know cause Ive been watching them for a few years as they sell and they do sell. Granted the S go for a bit more than the standard classic & the GTs go for a little less than both of those but compared to many Ducatis they are going up in value even with miles. Check ebay.

It sounds like your comparison points are 1) comfort, latest tech, great engine versus 2) classic, potentially valuable and/or collectible.

Value shouldn't really matter, unless you plan to hold it and sell it later. In which case, you probably don't want to put a bunch of miles on it that will decrease the value.

Are you looking at other bikes because you're not digging the Diavel?

Logically, I think you'll lose more on the Diavel than you'll gain on the Sport appreciation. They won't keep going up.

Motorcycles aren't always logical though...get whichever one you want.

My vote went to keeping the Diavel...

The Sport money is far too ridiculous... they weren't that rare.  Build a custom that hits the right notes on the baby Monster.

I just found one for $5900 (S), another for $4200(S) and four others below 8K (S). And of course some listed from 12K to 20K. Obviously the 20K bike won't sell as it's some guy that added up what he has spent and thinks that's what his bike is worth. Very few bikes increase in value, certainly not ones that were produced in the numbers these were. Since you already have a similar bike (air cooled, similar riding position), I'd keep the Diavel which is far and above a better bike. But.....if you love it, get it.

i've ridden a few diavels, and a lot of sports.  i'd be pissing the diavel off at the first opportunity.

Please tell me where you're seeing these Sport 1KS at this price point. For that kind of money I could keep the Diavel!

^^^^^ I agree, butt ugly bike.

I've got a sport 1000s with a bubble fairing and Termis, and I think you are going the wrong direction.  It is a very pretty bike, but. Ride it next to a superbike, monster, hypermotard or streetfighter, and it is probably going to be the least comfortable bike in the bunch.  I was (and kind of still am) considering if I could trade mine even up for the 1098s with 10k miles at the local dealership.  Because I spend another 5 or 6 k tracking down Ohlins front and back and lighter wheels, it still would be barely half the bike the superbike is, from a performance and comfort standpoint.

Find one at the right price and have three bikes. Life's short. [thumbsup]

Ahh yes Oodle. I've chased down a few bikes on Oodle that seemed to good to be true and every time they were a scam. "Bike is in storage but if you pay I can have it shipped to you." "My husband passed and I'm selling his bike. No you cant see it it's in storage." etc.  In one case on a 78 Dharma SS going for $8K I actually used google images and found the same bike for sale in New York form the real seller who was very willing to let me come see the bike. Except he wanted about 10K more for the bike than the scam artist. But you never know... I will check some of these out but typically when you see a Paul Smart going for $5K you gotta look a little more closely.
