Has anyone experienced any clearance issues with clip ons on a 696?

I don't think so...I've been waiting for someone to do it too...but no one so far.

We are going to try the new speedymoto clip ons once we get our 696 back. I think there will be some clearance issues and you will probably lose some steering but we will find out for sure.

That's what I like to hear! ;D

Give it the good old college try. [drink]

When do you anticipate getting your 696 back Sac Monster?  I have bar end mirrors and rizoma grip waiting to be put on, but i don't want to put them on the old bars, then put them on the clip ons once I get them.  It would be great if you could be the clip on guinea pig!  ;) Do you guys at motowheels have any other cool stuff coming for the 696?

Ive seen the 696 and im pretty sure it will have the same problems as the rest of hte monster line ups. Youll have to rerun your clutch and brake line adjust your steering stops for the maximum steering input and perhaps get spacers or new blinkers since they will mostly likely be in the way.

That's why I think I'm going to try these out soon.

Hopefully before Moto GP but likely next week now. I suspect we will have to get new lines and make some adjustments here and there. Lower handlebars may be a better choice but it really depends on what level the bars end up at. You just want to maximize your steering, we may have to bring in a couple of handlebars and see if any particular one will work well for the 696.

Sorry to pry, but have you guys had any luck with clip ons for the 696 yet? It's hard finding parts for this bike since it just came out. Thanks ahead of time.

We mounted some Speedymoto clip-ons under the bar to see what the riding position would be like:

We will have to lower the front to mount it on top.

Looks like Moto posted some pics as I was typing out this reply. We put the Speedymoto clip ons last week just to test fit them. We didn't move the controls over we just put them on under the triple clamp to get an idea if they would work. You would defnitely need new lines and most likely master cylinders if they were mounted at that level since they interfere with the dash. Not too big of a deal but bottom line was it wasn't comfortable, the bars were just too far down and the ergonomics didn't work. Matt sat on it and kind of liked it but he is like 6'5" or something. I would defnitely wait until Speedy comes out with a taller riser or look for something out there that has at least a 2" rise to it.

I have a set of "tall" clip-ons from a sport classic that I haven't got around to mounting on my 695 yet.  They are like 3+ inches of rise at the clamp, though they do angle down more than most.  On my bike they are nearly as tall as stock bars if mounted above the triple ... still a very comfy height below it.

I may be willing to trade for other clip-ons if a 696 owner wanted to try fitting these.  (You know, like a reperation for all the shit flung at696 owners around here!  ;) ) PM me.

Thanks for the fast reply and the pictures. That does look a lot lower then I had imagined. What size are the clip ons that you used on the M696? I think I'll wait a bit for something else. Thanks again.

Those are 50mm clip ons. I like the Speedymoto clip ons though so it would be worth waiting for their taller ones to come out.

The top triple seems like it's mounted really low on the fork tube.  Is that stock?

It will toss around your geometry a bit, but what if you raise the front end up a bit and just put a couple of risers on, a la : http://www.spieglerusa.com/cfm/clipon.cfm?type=offset

They don't have the nice two piece clamp like the speedys, but that little bit o rise may be just enough to make it comfortable(ish).  Is there enough room on top to lower the triples and put on the clip ons without shortening your rake too much?
