My 2005 620 dark currently has 180/55 zr17 tires. The current rim is 5.25" outside of the rim lips. I am looking into getting a more touring  tire and online it says my bike stock should have 160/60 zr17 tires with a 4.5" rim width. Makes it difficult to talk to salesmen who dont want me buying the incorrect tire. I'd like a narrower tire like a 150/70 or a 160/60 rather than the 180, however dont want to buy a smaller tire if it wont fit on the wider rim. Def confused

The rim is marked with the size, double check, but it should be a 4.50x17.

In that case, a 160/60-17.

ahh nice! yes it is a 4.5. I'm curious why the previous owner put a 180 on there? hmm Well thats good. I can get the tires i want then. Thanks. Never knew they said the dim on there.

The 180 likely slowed down turn in.  I like my M750 (should have same sizes as the 620) with a 160/60 rear and a 120/70 up front.

Yeah. it definitely is a little weird turning. I guess I got used to it, but am curious as to how it would feel with a proper size tire now.

A 180 on a 4.5" wheel will be very weird.

Makes sense now. When i was trying to measure the rim width, with no success, i noticed the tire was funny looking. Also always rubbed on the hugger. I am going towards a dual sport-ish tire. Up here in Maine we have alot of dirt roads with great campsites.
