ASV lever, for Monster S2R (They will fit, of course. They are fold-out type, so they won't break as easily as solid one piece lever, and adjustable for your hand size.)

Can someone direct me to a handlebar that will fit, preferably black?  I ordered one a long time ago and it didn't fit.

2006 S2R.

Thanks.

Just wanted to remind you that those aftermarket bars are NOT pre-drilled. So you either have to grind off the nubs on the switch boxes or measure and drill holes on the new bar.

If you don't like either idea, Suburban machinery makes pre-drilled bar. (It's not black, but you can plasti-dip it.)

Ugh... of course it isn't easy!!!

I have decided that I am going to try to just go without the bike for the rest of the year and just do all the upgrades and repairs now.

I want to take the swing arm off and get it coated black too...  I wish there was a way to update the technology.  I need to chill though... I started a new job (I have the worst luck with jobs)... found out that i have an employment "Agreement" and not a "contract"... so they just cut my pay by 5% with no warning.

Again, if I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all....

My 2cents in regards to your replacement bar quest
For ME the Rizoma bars had too much rearward sweep on my S2R1000 2006 a good friend gave them to me and I removed them pretty fast even though they were black and looked good they just felt clumsy and placed my elbows back and too close to my body.

I had found a crack in my bars after a tumble , ended up sourcing a set from a S4RS (I think the same as the S2R)that were a bit scratched carefully plasti dip sprayed them and a year later they still look good.
Cost a big zero

So the news came back from the shop.

They want $3K to repair her... and that is not including the new chain and sprocket which is going to cost me an additional $500.

I HATE that I don't know how to do this stuff myself!!!

So here is one question off the top of my head:

Part of the $3K is to replace that tank with a new one.  Now I know it needs to be coated on the inside.  Is there someone here who does that?  Can I have the tank shipped to them, they do the magic, then ship it to the shop?  Who is it?  How much would they charge me to do it?

Part of me is thinking of just saying I have no motorcycle anymore and write it off as a loss.  At the same time, I know if I don't fix this one, I'll never afford a motorcycle again.

Someone else told me that I could do the chain myself... I just need a $50 tool... but I don't know what the hell I am doing and he won't help me.

Should I just get rid of the bike and say "good bye, Ducati"?

Thanks.

EDIT:

Saying I need a new front fender because its scratched and a totally new rear one.  I almost feel I could replace the front fender myself...

You can't give up on your bike now - keep it and fix it - you'll feel better  [thumbsup]

Here's a place who does (did? The post is from 2011) the coating for ~$250

Is a big part of the quote fixing the fork? If so, what is wrong with it?

Used front fender. VERY easy to take on/off in minutes.
Used rear fender (beer tray). VERY easy to take on/off in an hour or two.

No luck replacing the clutch lever yourself?

Used kick stand (new is $182) - a mechanic changes this in less than half an hour.

$1100 of the quote is the new tank.

The rest is buying and replacing the fenders... They didn't check the oil leak which they are doing now.. because I said if the engine is cracked, screw it, don't do any work.

Pissing me off...

I won't have them do the levers.. I can do that myself, I think.  And I can get nice ones.. like rizomas or something.. something that isn't going to break.

Let me talk to that coating place and see if they still will do.

90% is bolt off bolt on. The chain tool isnt that expensive. Some blue locktite, a torque wrench and a you can to everything. The coatin is the only thing to throw at experts. Even then look on ebay for a used one already coated.

Sorry!

Good plan to check the oil leak. Could easily be from when it was on it's side.

If 'only' $1,000 is for the tank... then they want 1,900 for fenders? Surely that's a mistake or not all they plan to do?

Replacing a chain isn't something you do yourself (some can, but it requires skills and knowledge)(sorry to disagree Raux)

MsTek

so I am forumlating a plan here.. if those guys will work with me.

Find out if the leak is something simple that can be fixed.

if it is.. then I will tell them to go ahead and fix the chain (that buys me some time)...  Then I will have them order the tank.  I will see if I can get it shipped to the guy who fixes them if he wants to do it.  I will order the parts for the fenders/clutch myself.. I'll do that.  In the meantime, we'll see how much to get the swing arm off to get it powder coated black.  Shop said they are willing to work with me and let me send them money every other week... that's the only way I can try to afford this unless I get lucky and get a new job PLUS a second job.  LOL!
