No love from me - races are way to long, and not decided by drivers or cars.

So what does decide the race?   Who has the bigger flux capacitor?

The cars are pretty much all the same, but how each team sets them up is different. We're talking about 1/2# air pressure changes. That and the Drivers are what win races.  NASCAR drivers have more cars to deal with, waaaay smaller margins of error, all while they are constantly bumping each other.  If Indy and other series drivers are so good how come they can't win in NASCAR?  If you ask me watching the NASCAR guys go 4 wide at Talledega at the end of the race is more exciting than any race out there.  What is the fun in watching Indy or F1 where there is hardly any passing and no strategy.
Also the announcers for NASCAR, especially Darrel Waltrip, are always super excited and very animated.  Not like the typical boring ass european announcers for most of the other series.
I am by no means a big NASCAR fan but I do enjoy watching it if I get the chance.  If you don't want to watch it don't, but don't bash something that you don't know the details about.

back in the day.... I liked it.

now'a days.... not so much.

same car....sucks
11tyb yellow flags..... sucks
11tyb sponsers......sucks
11tyb variety of the same car/truck..... sucks
11tyb cars on the grid.....sucks

I'd much rather go sit on a sleeping bag and watch the local dirt track oval.

Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar kicked me out of the band..... they said I didnt fit the image they were trying to project.

So I went solo.  -Me

Apparently you aren't aware that Indy Car's race 50% of their races on ovals.

No passing or strategy?

I watch Indy about as much as I watch NASCAR and I find that NASCAR is way more exciting and the drivers are way more likable.  I'm not hating on other types of racing I just think that NASCAR gets a bum rap that it doesn't deserve.

Like I said you watch a race at Talledega and then tell me that NASCAR is not exciting.

I will agree with this comment...The two styles are completely different.
IMO NASCAR is far more interesting in the fan to driver relationship.  NASCAR allows the fans to identify with not only the driver, but the sponsors as well.
For those of you that think it is simply driving around in a circle making left turns...you must think that there is no skill involved in Flat Track racing...Having said this...NASCAR has so many requirements to make the cars equal, it is truly up to the driver and crew to have the winning vehicle.  There are many racing techniques that must be executed to be successful.  I don't know how bumbing someone at 200mph or traveling inches apart in a turn can not be exciting.  Next time you are out in your cage...drive about 3 inches from a jersey wall in a turn at (lets make it easy) 25mph...see how it feels!
NASCAR on the surface may look boring...but if you take the time to learn more about it...you just might find it interesting.
Soccer used to be boring to me...but I was inclined to check it out to see why the whole world loved it so much...Still not a fan, but I at least have more respect for it now.

hello metallimonster, i actually don't think i was "bashing" at all. i just said i didn't get it and i thought it's really boring to watch. i also said please enlighten me as to what skills it takes to race in nascar.

i've watched enough over the years (since the mid 70's) to know what it takes to pass, to keep the pedal to the metal, how the cars are set up, things like that are quite obvious to me. i've even driven a stock car for a few laps in Vegas. that BTW, was a real blast. that sh*t was freakin' loud and powerful. anyway, as i've grown up and have modded my own bikes and cars, so to have my level of interest in motor sports changed and i look for more technical racing...

but in the end i guess it's what ever floats your boat. one person may like ferrari's and another one may like a hummer. i personally love the dakar races as well which is whole other level of racing... [moto]

Hydra,

I wasn't trying to single you out except for the car and the driver not winning the race-still don't get that one.

It's just that a most people who do not like NASCAR know nothing about it and can only come up with "Anyone can make a left turn". Ducpenguin was right on a lot of points [thumbsup]

I actually like the LeMans races a lot but once football is on there is no other sport in my life.

At a party after the 500 this year, that little demon girl (i.e. Danica) threw a nice elbow in my back to get me out of the way so she could get to the bar, followed by her lesbian looking handler.

For me, the sexiest thing in motor racing is the chicane -- nothing quite like watching a Le Mans car hunker down into a quick left-right, or a line of MotoGP bikes doing the dance from knee to knee faster than I can even think it. For me, NASCAR don't mean a thing 'cause ain't got that swing. A few years ago I tuned in to watch them on a road course, mostly for the comedy value -- best moment was watching Gordon and two others go three wide into a tight left-right, and all three spinning out simultaneously in the right hander without touching one another. Looked like synchronized swimming.

I'll acknowledge completely that NASCAR takes a tremendous amount of talent, skill and preparation to win, or even just to make it to the top level. So do golf and bowling. Visually, though, they just don't hold my attention.

Here are a few pictures from the grid at Mid Ohio last weekend from the Indy Car race.

Sorry I didn't take any pictures other then the Number 20 car, but I have an affiliation with that team.

For me, the cool thing about NASCAR is when they... zzzzzzzzzzzz

Oh, sorry, fell asleep just thinking about it.   ;D

WRC, SCORE, Dakar and other series similar to those are so much more fun to watch IMHO, but what makes them more interesting will always make them take a back seat to NASCAR.  They're harder to spectate since you can only see a tiny part of the race instead of most or all of the track and they're remote.  Those two things also make them harder to film.

I like the first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes of every race. The rest is just useless filler.

WRC is awesome. And like BP said local oval/ dirt track is way more fun.
