1999 996 SPS
«
on:
September 10, 2020, 03:07:47 PM »
Just picked up a 1999 996 SPS (at a reasonable good price
)
It’s all original with 19,000 kms on the clock. A little untidy and hasn’t been serviced, or ridden in years! Nothing major all easy fixes!
My question: Does anyone know of a website or guide whereby I am able to confirm it is a genuine SPS? And if the frame and engine numbers are matching?
With the wisdom and guidance of Koko64 (Cheers mate
) I have been able to confirm it does have all the SPS goodies. Would just like to confirm numbers if that were possible.
Thanks in advance
PS. I’m too much of a tech retard to be able to upload photos so Koko64, if you are able could you please attach the first photo I sent you of the bike on trailer

Faloon says 13 units total of 1999 996SPS went to Oz.
Usually the swanky bikes get a placard on the upper triple clamp, but no idea in this particular case.
Engine/motor numbers matching, no idea for you mate, as we've got a different format here and nothing matches ever.

It has the P8 ECU for sequential twin injectors (strada went to 1.6), plaque on triple, Ohlins rear, alloy subframe, correct 5 spoke Marchis, correct forks for 99. Should have the Ti pankl rods.
I'll get pics up asap.

No 060.
Has a carbon air box.
I'm getting my info from Falloons Desmoquattro book, he's pretty accurate until he's not. The bike matches the 99 model with Showa forks, gold frame, etc. The 2000 model had changes like Ohlins forks, gunmetal frame. Brakes are correct as they stopped the cast iron floaters by then and fitted snowflakes.
I figure its real if the motor spins up like a bastard with Ti conrods.
Flickr struggling today.

Thanks Tony for putting up photo
I did end up removing fairing to transport home as straps were rubbing up on them!
And thanks Speeddog, great to know only 13 in Australia if it is genuine
Bike now completely stripped down for nut ‘n bolt restoration to showroom condition

The original 916 based Ducati Superbike are still the sexiest motorcycles ever created. Congrats on the purchase. Please keep us up to date on the resto with pics and details on this Italian supermodel!!

Should be fast enough to get you locked up.
Ian said it has the 748/close ratio box.
I've had folks say they love them on the big motors.
My S4 has one and I'd much rather it had the wide ratio box.
Preference I guess.

“Sport Production Special”
I guessed at the sport production. That second S adds a lot of cool.
