For the PIP-A group, this is the tentative route I'm thinking which has a 7:30am Kickstand up time (which means fueled, geared-up, bathroom, coffeed, etc... by 7:30AM)

Just checked out the route you had planned. Mostly seems great, but as far as I know, Lake Kanawauke Rd in Harriman State Park is closed. At least, it was last month when I tried it, and GC told me it still was a couple weeks ago. Of course, he rode it anyway--7 miles of gravel is his perfect road!
Usual Suspects

Got Duc

I just heard from a buddy that 2** going out of Roscoe is closed because the road washed out if you are taking that route.
Why do roaches always die on their back?

That because the survivors flip them over to steal their sneakers and wallets.

Kanawauke was closed 2 weeks ago when cru and I rolled over to it.  bridge has been out all season. :(

can we just post route numbers rather than "2** & 1**"?  I don't think we have to worry about people knowning these roads.  you can find them on any map.

Thanks for the update.  I was hoping it would be fixed by now...apparently no luck.  I'll tinker some more in Mapsource.  Likely update for Seven Lakes Drive (South) to some residential streets to get over to Clinton road instead.  Bit of a shame as the middle part of 17A is fun and scenic.

I haven't plotted a route to PJ yet but rest assured, I/we will be steering very clear of the PIP, Harriman, most of Sussex county - [bacon] is looking for us and my bike is too loud as it is  [bang] and to be rolling with a whole pack v-twins... they're gonna hear us coming from miles away.

For me, the fun riding won't be until after breakfast. Anything before that will be an extended commute, albeit a nice scenic one...

Clinton road

CDawg, just as an FYI... Clinton Road... not good... if it's not closed like it usually is, then it'll be all types of broken pavement, dirt, and or gravel. Personally, I love that stuff but I know most don't. Just sayin'

A good way to head west from Harriman is to follow rt17A into Warwick, then jump on CR1 (Pine Island Turnpike) all the way. There's nothing but farms, cows, and rolling hills. You still have to watch out for  [bacon] though, they hate us over there...

GC,
Thanks for the tip!  I'm planning on pre-riding the route and checking out the diner this weekend to make sure everything is fine.  So I can pre-ride Clinton Rd and adjust as needed.  It was in pretty decent shape when I was there in late May, but who knows now!  CR-1 is definitely a pretty way to get to Port Jervis, but then I'll miss out on Sparta and Sawmill  ;)

i'd say let the roads less travelled be your route. Traffic will be stupid thru Warwick and surrounding areas at 10:00/10:30.

Grrrly

I was on Clinton Rd a few weeks ago and it was clear.

Also if you want a way from Harriman to 17 to 17A, try Arden Rd from Tiorati Circle.
Warning it is VERY bumpy, but fun  ;D

I've seen that road closed more than half the time I go there, what's with that?

which road?  if Clinton then which way are you approaching it?  From the North end I've had no problems, I turn off at Van Orden.

If Arden, its closed because the parking lot is full, but if you tell the officer you're going to Rt 17 they will let you through.

Approaching from the circle.  I never asked the fuzz before I would just ride by shaking my proverbial fist.  Now I'll ask to pass, thanks.

IndustrialGrrrl,
Thanks! I'll check it out this weekend!

Although I only live about 30 miles away, I think I shall plan out a 90 mile route to get there.  ;D

This may be an interesting route for some.  It's about 80 miles starting from rt 17 in Suffern.  If I ride it, others may want to come along.
