Hello. (2002 Monster S4)

After 5 plus months of not riding my bike, I saw my clutch MC needs work/ replacement.

I had seen "fluid" splashed on the left side of my tank from about a year ago but I thought it was bc my fork seals were leaking.

I finally got the seals replaced, my front fairing tabs fixed, and my rear seat cowl back...  and noticed the fluid still on the left side of the tank.
Super bummed out, I thought I was going to ride for a couple of months SANS problems  [bang]
My clutch MC was leaking from the dust boot!!!

( I was gonna post under a 3 month old thread but the read letters saying ".. consider a new thread.." won.)

My clutch MC is stamped as follows.

top         -1L06 + 12 ( 12 mm piston??). I thought it was 13 mm  [coffee]
bottom   - 8294 10/j 018

After email several shops, I am convinced my clutch mc is a
Ducati Brembo 13 mm Gold clutch MC late style (external reservoir)  (no rebuild kit). ($250 usd)

At one point, I thougth the 13 mm kits would save me, see above links.

I would love to rebuild my clutch MC but already had my bike out for months as I did the suspension and some fairing work and have already spend 1 weeks researching clutch MC's; now will wait on forum's opinion/advice.

I was looking at the brembo GP RCS 16 radial clutch mc ($290) but it would mean

-$40 more
-should work with my RIZOMA reservoir tanks, should but.. risk
-my shorty ASV would come off as the GP RCS come with a lever
-almost a necessity to match my brake MC so another $290 jajaja

There is a 12mm rebuild kit, $30, which I think I would order and rebuild the clutch any how IF POSSIBLE.

I keep reading as to make an informed/educated purchase as to appreciate the upgrade if that route is taken.

What is the difference  in

https://store.bevelheaven.com/Brake-Related-Parts/Brembo-12mm-M%7CC-Rebuild-Kit-SOLID-PIVOT-type/

-hallo pivot vs solid pivot MC's?
it is bc there are 2 rebuilt kits and trying to figure out which might work best.

I read the thread linked above of the "MC REBUILD " which showed a brembo clutch MC 13 mm with a reservoir, very informative and then I understood I might  not be able to rebuild mine.

Pulling my clutch MC is "medium hard" but used to it.
will the 16 mm GP RCS make it much softer and a longer pull???

I am considering riding a little to enjoy a couple of days but think it unwise.
I also know, the sooner I take the clutch MC off, the more info I can know by inspecting.

If it doesn't HAVE to be gold, you can get a new black "coffin" master for less than 100. Lever and mirror mount included.

thanks for suggestion, the coffin style, I am sure I can find something thoug a quick search did not.

I does open up other possibilities that might work on my S4, maybe this $85 used 748 clutch MC?
Will look up and see what other clutch Mc's are compatible with me.

I did read in another thread that KTM might have rebuild kits that are compatible with my clutch MC..

Most straightforward and cheapest option is to replace with the same type or the retro fit update (ask the shopabout that). A used part from an unknown vendor is asking for trouble.
Its true that master cylinder design and slave cylinder design impact clutch lever effort, but so does clutch spring strength.

I'd pull my master apart, and measure the bore. Buy the appropriate diameter kit of the type of your lever pivot bolt. It's a pretty simple repair.

Thanks guys, great ideas and suggestions.

Not my brightest moment thinking to save $20-$40 and buy used  [cheeky]

I should be able to take it apart today, clean it and measure.

Think the best set up is an ALL BALLS repair kit but their designation is for KTM
and based on that I cant tell which are 12 mm... but getting closer.

The brembo would be a combo of both 12mm rebuilt kits
-12mm hollow pivot: has the boot (unsure of size) but the piston is of different design, sealing.
-12mm solid pivot   : has NO boot, but the piston looks of closer design..

now, which kit  [bow_down]

12 mm clutch MC..

You have a solid pivot master. If the boot is not too swollen from the fluid, it can be re-used.

Super info!!

Now I know the kit but I need a boot lol

What does solid pivot mean?

ducpainter

The bolt that holds the clutch lever. Yours is solid.

The hollow style was used exclusively on coffin style masters, and some of the pee cup style.
