I know Ducati recommends Shell oil for our motors, but does anyone use Mobile 1? or other synthetic oil? I use Mobile 1 in everyone of my cars and swear by it. But I wanted to hear the opinions of you all first.

thanks

Oh this can of worms.  Yes you can use other high quality syn oils.  There's a long, and very informative oil thread on TOB, ruled by a lubrication engineer.  To sum it up for you, Mobil 1 MX4T is the good stuff.  But there's a number of syns on the market that are almost as good.

Mobil 1 MX4T is good stuff, and a little cheaper than the boutique oils you find at the shop.

Now, duck and run before this thread gets really out of hand!

Bottom Line facts...

1) Anything motospecific will work.
2) Dry clutch can use anything.
3) Oil is better than no oil
4) If no oil use Olive oil.
5) Synthetic > non synthetic
6) EEV> pure
7) chaning your oil is better than not chaning your oil
8) more expensive oil usually equals better.
9) Dino oil sucks. but see rule 3

Im dumping fully synththic Mobil 1 (for cars) in my next oil change. $20 bucks. cant beat the price when compared to $60 full synthetic moto oils

WestonWith2

Do you have to use synthetic?

Do you need to use Extra Virgin Olive Oil or will the cheaper variations work just as well?   [moto]

Oh can I fan the fire?

My bike has only had about 400 miles put on it this year because I have been overseas... (had my pops put about 40 miles on it every month to kepp the belts, tires, and metallic bits moving)

I changed the oil right at a year ago (moto specific synth) when I left should I follow the "1 year no matter how many miles" oil change rule????

(he man this is outside of the scope of rule 3)

actually I am going to change it anyways

Well, unless you botch the job some how, new oil never hurt
