ez pass on windscreen
«
on:
August 05, 2008, 08:08:51 AM »
I recently got an ez pass and I tried it out this past weekend on my way to Tutto Italiano. It worked fine when I held it up, but did not work as advertised when I just kept it in my pocket. I was thinking about mounting it to the inside of my windscreen with suction cups, but I have the light tinted zero gravity windscreen on there now and I'm wondering if it will work. Anyone have any experience with this?

I have an S2R1K. I actually mount mine below and to the right of the windscreen, right on the plastic part of the fairing. I have two velcro strips there. I trust the velcro more than the suction cups. And no one can really see the strips behind the fairing..
I've been using it this way for quite a while and haven't had any problems ( NY, MA, NH ).

as long as the license plate on your bike is registered to EZpass. it doesnt really matter. They'll take a pic of your bike and then run the plate and charge your account.
You'll piss off the EZpass people who work there cuz it will make more work for them but .. oh well..

It is registered, but I also read somewhere that one guy stopped carrying his ez pass and would run the toll and let ez pass figure it out but then he got pulled over for running the toll and got a ticket for not having his ez pass. There is a potential to get hassled, so I'd like to have it mounted and at least make an attempt to follow the rules...

I know locally (Colorado) they are going to start charging you to lookup your car, if it doesnt register when you pass through. This would apply to repeate offenders.
Also:
Per your user agreement, E-470 will charge a $7 administrative fee for all tolls associated with vehicles not listed on a customer's EXpressToll account.

I have the 3M strips on the inside of my little front fairing, not centered but to the right where it's slightly less curved so the EZ Pass can get better contact with the strips. I've never had a problem with it. Just need to remember to take the Pass with you when you leave the bike parked.

Interesting, I probably had registered when I got it ages ago. Not even sure I have the same plates since then, but have never been charged anything extra so I guess its moot...
Thanks

You can use the same pass on multiple vehicles, you just have to register them online with ez pass (or whoever)

Ive used the same one between several cars and dozens of bikes forever now, never had any problems. I've even let friends borrow mine when they run to the city or to JFK or Laguardia.
I wouldn't worry about it,,, after all they are still getting paid..

you can use it, as long as it works. If you go through the ezpass lane and it doesnt read the gizmo then they will look up the license plate of the car that went through. If the license plate is registered then they will simply charge your account accordingly. If the plate is not registered expect a nasty gram in the mail from ezpass.

velcro strips supplied with EZpass.
has held for two years.
forgot to take it off at the track last year. Held firm at speed on the straight with the fairing wobbling all over the place.

I let the GF borrow mine, so she could take me and from the airport. We hit 4 toll booths. Two weeks later, she got 4 letters in the mail with $250 violations on each for failing to pay. I had to call and explain the situation, and they cleared it up. Thankfully they were understanding.

It's a good idea to check now and then what tags are registered on your account. We've never had false or extra tolls charged, but we have found on two occassions a tag registered on our accounts that weren't ours. Both were garbled incorrect tag numbers (not legit tags) so no tracing down who it was, but worth checking regardless.
Any of our three tags are good on any of our four vehicles.
