Cowboy Bike = Harley Davidson
Judging by the tire wear the 696'r is a pretty good rider.

That old 999 of mine can be had cheap from the current owner. Something like $3k. It's got some cosmetic damage and might possibly need a clutch basket but you won't know that until the pressure plate comes off. Hell, it's got a full race Termi set on it. There's over $1k in the rear seat alone. Front brakes another $1k. If anyone out there (DucatiBobMetalPlateinMyHand) is kind of interested let me know & I'll get you in touch with Alan.

Yeah, I saw that the other day & it bummed me out slightly. Only slightly as I might have made a run at it. It disappeared for a bit. However, I am very happy with the current ride despite a few minor setbacks.

isn't it's cheapness due to salvage title?
otherwise, that is rightly tempting... even knowing the issues it had before

Dude, that would be SWEET if you got it. You could do TONS of engine work with all the cash you would save on it.

Alan tells me there is no Salvage title on it. Dunno for sure but it would surprise me if it didn't have one at this point. You never know though, he might have worked something out with the insurance company.
The bike didn't have engine or transmission issues. That sucker ran strong & true. I had the belts changed and Alan had a 6,000 mile service done, including a valve adjustment. It had the immobilzer issue and the clutch wore out too soon. I think the clutch issue was due to a suck Barnett set of plates & discs. Those have been replaced with a Ducati factory clutch as far as I know. It does run a bit warm but I think that is characteristic of the 999. No problem running down the freeway but slow down under 35 mph and it ain't happy. That was why I installed the manual fan switch modification, which was pretty slick I might add.
Then there was just oddball electrical design & engineering (which is suspect in my opinion) but that hadn't manifested itself in anything evil, other than the immobilizer, yet. It was/is a beautiful beast in it's own right. Maybe not as powerful as a 1098 but less civilized, if that makes sense.
