hello folks,

my friend's little chihuahua has been in labor almost 12hrs. i've been reading up on the web but we've never had this experience before so we're both very nervous and anxious.

she's a tiny little thing and she's all restless and panting. we think she'll have it within the next 12hrs.

the only things is, i don't know what a contraction should feel like. she seems to shiver sometimes but i don't really feel anything coming from the belly area. she let out one big yelp at one point that sounded painful. i'm sure she's fine but just to confirm, i WILL know when she's about to give birth...right? and are the contractions something i will obviously know?

here's a pic (not pregnant)

Call your vet or one that's open at night.

IZ

Find out what the Vet will cost first.

Are there any problems associated with that breed during puppy birth?  Check into it.  If not..you can handle it!!

If so, I'd go to the Emerency Vet.

Dogs have been giving birth without human intervention for a few years now

might be the best thing you can do is stay hands off

[laugh] you think you are being funny

two fires ago

initial attack crew came out a window with thier "rescue"

and rushed over to rehab

I forget what I was doing but I got tapped on the shoulder to head to rehab and help with the "victim"

When I got over there three guys were working furiously on an unresponsive Malmut(sp?)

it now resides with one of our Lt's

If it's "your" vet, most won't charge you for a question or two over the phone. Mine sometimes doesn't even charge me for a visit.

Thanks

but

I had nothing to do with it

I was in shock, I rushed over to help and then

my brain locked up...saying "really?...Really?"

and I just watched them work on this dog

I thought it was sad and hopeless and then the little dewd started breathing on his own

He was out of it for a few days since it was a grow house

little dewd was high as kite for a couple days

He Man

All females are born with the whole birth giving scenario in their head. THey know what to do, otherwise we'd all be dead. She will pant and breathe heavily and possibly roll around a bunch of times and try to walk. All you need to do is make sure there is a good nesting area for her to bring her children and lots of water and food nearby because she will not leave sight of her young for a few weeks. Other than that, just sit back and let nature take its course.

holy crap...one black puppy just popped out!!!
