Need to support it from the motor with jack stands . . . Yes Neikos, if you remove the engine mount bolt (frame slider location) and drive a nice sturdy long steel bar all the way thru, the bar can then rest on jack stands on either side of your Lili. It works real slick. I've done it that way before [thumbsup] I have stands and stuff if you need anything. Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Do you have a weekly limit? ;D Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: SR1K_Femme on April 05, 2009, 01:26:17 PM Why yes.. and one most not go over the alloted mileage. No actually my bike just beats me to death on long rides. Shoulders are still burning from yesterday's ride. But with enough Tylenol Extra Strength coursing through my blood I'm good for a few more of the 'alloted' miles. :)
Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: JDucati on April 05, 2009, 06:53:55 PM Anybody interested in a ride for next weekend if weather permits?
Maybe all meet in wilsonville and head out from there? Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Shoulders are still burning from yesterday's ride. But with enough Tylenol Extra Strength coursing through my blood I'm good for a few more of the 'alloted' miles. :) Hey Sabrina - The upright posture on the monsters shouldn't do that. I'll bet you are giving your 2R the ol' wrestlemania death grip. The trick is, I think, to relax and zen your way along. I believe I had the same aches and pains when I first started riding mine. I'm betting those aches and pains'll go away eventually once you get familiarized with your machine. Today was such a great day I'm optimistic about everything :). Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: SR1K_Femme on April 05, 2009, 09:32:10 PM I know, to think I got a Monster to get AWAY from the CBR fetal position riding style. [roll] Wasn't as bad today while riding.. I also think the additional winter gear I've been wearing creates so much resistance, that it adds to the typical wear and tear of just riding the bike.

Here is their plan: 8:30 AM : meet up at Triumph of Tacoma, aka Lakewood Motosports. Vena has kindly volunteered to come early and open up for us. Directions to Triumph of Tacoma, 12007 Pacific Highway SW, Lakewood, Wa 98499 from South bound I-5: Take the Bridgeport Exit - Exit 125 (It is the next exit heading south afer the 512 Puyallup exit) head west and turn left at the first light (Pacific Highway SW). T of T is the second building on the left. 9:00 AM: depart Triumph of Tacoma. Slab down I-5 to Kelso/Longview, where we will gas up before entering the Nanny State. 11:00 AM: brunch at Humps Restaurant in Clatskanie, OR. Noon: depart Humps via Hwy. 47. Those who do not want to slab I-5 to Longview are free to take their own route to Clatskanie and meet us at Humps for brunch. Humps is in "downtown" Clatskanie on the north side of US 30. You can't miss it. Cap'n Parrotdead, Ducati Don, and any PDX riders: you can meet up with us at Humps for brunch. Bill Anderson & Mao Tse Duc (04-ST4s, red) Edmonds, WA. They are staying at the motel across the street from me, but if any of you want to join in on the ride, I have rooms open here this weekend. Mike Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. A little chaos ensued at the end, sorry about that Victor. I was mistakenly trying to catch up with you - I must have passed you and not seen you. That damn sticky throttle on the Rs again. Ryan and I returned via 47 thru Yamhill, Gaston, then back up Baldy and home thru the west 'burbs. Other than my face and forehead being roasted red from the sun, all was great. An hour on the roof at the McMenamins Hotel in McMinnville and I look like a lobster from the neck up. We will ride again. Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. [thumbsup] Chuck / Ryan - You two are tempting me to extend my 800 mile weekend up and over 1000 [moto]. I would need to spend another night out on the road, but I am up for it. I need to see Marvel and rub his shiny head for good luck. Maybe I'll stay in Sisters - always liked that little rinky-dink town. I have to get home on Sunday at some point and fetch my pooches from the kennel. I'll have to check to see how late they are open. I propose we discuss this over beers soon. Turned around and came back to Sandy, stopped at a friend's house to stretch my legs for a bit, then back in 26-212-Sunnyside to Clackamas. 101 miles total, according to the bike's odometer. Left at 12607, came back at 12708. And what a perfect day for a ride! I didn't see any fellow Ducatisti on Saturday, which kinda surprised me considering the perfect weather and distance traveled. Ditto your experience on the roads... most were fine, but there were a couple hair-raising corners with gravel in the middle of the lane. I was also having a minor issue with the bike missing downshifts... I was finding false neutrals when downshifting between 4th and 3rd, and sometimes between 3rd and 2nd. Makes for interesting cornering when ya downshift, let out the clutch, and realise a half-second later that you're coasting! :o Especially goin' into some of those really gnarly downhill 15mph corners on Marmot. Blech... those aren't fun. Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: jdubbs32584 on May 11, 2009, 01:49:50 PM Oh cool... were you out in the morning? It is a long damn way from Portland to John Day (especially on a monster). 250 miles yesterday. 280 miles today. Some lessons learned: 1. Cow poop is slippery. 2. Gravel is slippery. 3. At a certain velocity, aerodynamic pressure will overwhelm the spring-loaded detents on the CRG Lane Splitter mirrors and cause them to fold back. (ahem - no actual numbers will be posted here on the Interwebz). ;D 4. At or very near the same velocity mentioned above, the rain-shield cover of a Coretech tail bag will also detach and blow away, but may retrieved by your buddy riding behind you in the slower non-Ducati bike and returned at the next stop, for which one is ever grateful. That is all. JohnnyD Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. JohnnyD I experienced number 3 today. Aerodynamic pressures are getting stronger this year. [evil] Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. So: Meet at Starbucks on the corner of Durham and 99W 8AM - Departure time 9AM. 99W 18 22 Bend - Lunch/M&G&Z etc. 97 26 PDX - 6ish. Anyone, anyone? Marv said he's gonna be free ~11:30. So if we leave early or take a quicker route to 22 we could hit some local roads with him. Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. I haven't been on a bike since I sold the SV about 4 months ago so I might be a little rusty but I'm sure I'm not going to get off it for the next few months. Just throwing it out there.

Post by: duc_fan on September 08, 2009, 09:00:23 PM Faaahhhhdge. I'm gonna be camping outside of Estacada that Saturday. I'd use the banghead emoticon... except camping is great, and I don't regret it in the least. ;D I may even find time to go visit a ladyfriend in Sandy. ;)
It's killin' me that I ride past the Wind River Hwy at least once a week, and I haven't managed to go on a Cougar Run this year. C'est la Vie. Oh yeah... and I'll be renting a view house in Stevenson for the next year. Can't settle on buying right now, with work trying to decide where to put the engineers. Too much uncertainty. Soooo.... I'm gonna wait. I'll use the time to get my financial situation even better, and in the meantime enjoy a killer view from a deck looking over Stevenson, the river, and Bridge of the Gods. ;) That, and with my primo location, I will HAVE to go on a Cougar Run next season. Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: krolik on September 12, 2009, 02:27:52 PM Still didn't do the Cougar run. :'(
But I did go along on a ride out Pittsburg-Vernonia Rd to Hwy 47 to Clatskinie and back the same way. [thumbsup] It was a group I met at MotoCorsa; a Tricolore S4Rs, 2 Hypermotards, a guy and his wife two-up on a 998. The best part is that the really crappy section of Pittsburg-Vernonia Rd has been repaved. [clap] Now its the best part of that route. [evil] Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: ryandalling on September 12, 2009, 02:56:12 PM I started 9:30ish and went two up to Maryhill WA to see the Stonehenge out there... awesome views... very cool.
Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: duc_fan on September 15, 2009, 01:19:52 PM I took my lady friend from Sandy for her first streetbike ride on Saturday. She loved it, wants to go faster next time. [evil] Now she's wanting to go for a ride on her b-day this weekend.
Life is good. [thumbsup] We'll see where this goes... but I may need a 2-up bike sooner rather than later. Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: krolik on September 22, 2009, 06:00:07 PM Ride this Sunday 9/27, let's try out the new pavement on Pittsburg - Vernonia Rd. Meet at MotoCorsa at 9:00 AM.

Post by: ryandalling on October 08, 2009, 12:30:23 PM I wanna go... but looks like I will be in the air... somewhere over the midwest at this point. [bang] At least I will be headed back West.
Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: duc_fan on October 08, 2009, 01:40:13 PM I'd love to ride this weekend, but my parents and I will be moving our stuff out of my storage unit (yes, "our" stuff... they've been using the extra space to store acquisitions from my dad's parents' estate).
So for riding, I'll have to be content with my commute to work... which is now SR14 between Stevenson and Bingen, WA. [moto] It was a bit brisk, but otherwise, a gorgeous sunny morning. Can't wait for the ride home. Think I'll take the scenic route up Cook-Underwood Rd on the way home... stop at the viewpoint on Underwood Mtn and enjoy the sunset-lit view of Hood River, Bingen, and the Gorge. ;D Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: ryandalling on October 08, 2009, 02:26:50 PM Hey Dan... you know Maryhill is just 40 miles from Bingen... that is where the Stonehenge is at... you been there yet? I can't recall. Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: JohnnyDucati on October 10, 2009, 04:40:12 PM Oh, you Sally's, you shoulda been there! ;D
Victor and I had a fun ride today (thanks, Vic). It was nice and cool, leaves changing colors, light traffic. The wilds of Estacada and Moolala were scenic. Hope we can squeeze in another ride or two before the weather turns . . . [thumbsup] Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. It is a pretty cool thing too. Yeah... there's a ton of wineries around here. One of my fellow Systems Engineers here at Insitu also runs a vineyard with her hubby, up on Underwood Mtn. Anywayz, no, haven't been to Maryhill or the Stonehenge replica... actually didn't realise they were there (or that Maryhill hosts summer concerts at their amphitheatre). Now that I know... I think I have a ride destination. Maybe I'll take my lovely ladyfriend out that way next year. That'd be a beautiful ride out SR14. Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: JohnnyDucati on November 02, 2009, 04:57:09 PM Chuck Lives!
Chuck and I went for a ride yesterday (Sunday). [moto] What a great day. Thanks for the invite, Chuck. A little chilly, but a great day to ride. We did the Bull Run Run. Saw a fair number of bikes out including a spiffy '95 SS and S2R1K in Sandy. Dare I say, the svelte, manly Chuck astride his trusty Lily was a vision to behold, reminiscent of Rossi at Laguna. ;D Chuck, you rock. [thumbsup] (I'm hoping he's lurking and will be lured back to the board!) Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. I rode with some BMW guys from Intel... scary thing... this dude on that BMW touring bike... GS1200??... he corners like a bat out of hell... and never gets off his seat.... taking these three linked 25 mph corners, off camber, with gravel at the apex...like he is on a Sunday stroll just swerving back and forth... dude rocks that bike... anyhow... came away with some respect for some of them bikes.... a lot of cops out today on 26 and 217 though..... Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: duc_fan on May 03, 2010, 12:17:59 PM I know a guy with a Suzuki Bandit 1200 and rides it like that. He raced in OMRRA back in the 80's. Amazing rider to follow. You can feel like you're going way too fast, but just follow his line/speed/movements and the corner is executed perfectly. I've learned a lot about how the bike should feel in high-speed corners just by following him a couple times.
In other news... Did a bit of riding with Erica this weekend. I think we racked up around 100 miles of 2-up riding. She's doing great, especially considering how new she is to it. Holds on snugly, keeps her torso in line with mine, doesn't upset the bike at all. Oh yeah, we were a LOT more comfortable on my Supersport than we had been on the CBR. It fits us so much better. Granted, we're both tall and it's a smallish bike, so we dwarf it... but it was still great. The bike felt nicely planted on the curvy bits of Clackamas River Drive, too. Wish I could afford a Multi, but this little 900SS is doing a great job in the meantime. [thumbsup] So yeah... my beautiful wife is hooked on motorcycling. ;D She was bummed when she had to drive her car back to Stevenson while I rode. I think we'll have many enjoyable weekends together on the motorcycle this summer. [moto] Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. [moto] If you buy a second bike neither one has to be good for 2 up :) Seriously, ask her if she wants to take the Team Oregon course. My wife took MSF back in California. Sadly, I sold all my bikes and was bikeless for a few years after so she hasn't ridden since the course. The Monster scares her so she hasn't wanted to ride it. I'm fine with that, not the best bike for a short beginner. Regardless, she said the class was loads of fun and it made her much more comfortable as a passenger since she knew more about riding and understood more about what I was doing as the driver. Post by: duc_fan on May 12, 2010, 03:03:07 PM Yeah, I've offered the MSF/Team Oregon class to Erica. I'll keep suggesting it whenever she mentions riding. I think we'll get there eventually. Whether she then wants to ride her own bike is entirely up to her... doesn't faze me in the least. Just means I need to plan accordingly and have the right bike for the job. Riding is a lot of fun either one-up or two-up, and honestly, I think I'm more like my dad... into the longer-distance touring. I like the idea of being out all day, or even half the day. [moto] My brothers... not so much. (*shrugs*) Erica? I think she just needs a more comfortable seat, and she'd be fine with touring.

We have something like 19-20 hours of flying time ahead of us... thank God for a generous father-in-law who paid for us to fly Business class.
Oh hey, y'all are just gonna blast down I-84 from the end of the old highway out to Hood River, right? SR-14, while it's a nicer ride most of the time, is closed for 2-hour intervals during the day between Stevenson and White Salmon for the "rockfall mitigation" work they're doing. I'd hate to see you get stuck in that mess. Have fun and ride safe! I'll wave if I see y'all on I-84. Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: Joshua on July 01, 2011, 10:10:50 AM I don't know about that one, I've done that one and it was a good 8 hour ride. Definitly worth it but I ain't got the time.
Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: INFIDEL on July 01, 2011, 10:18:20 AM Google says 6 hours round trip. Throw on an hour for lunch and 15 minutes for a gas stop ...
Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: ryandalling on July 01, 2011, 03:30:40 PM You forget, my tank is smaller than my bladder. We may need to gas stops.
Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: INFIDEL on July 01, 2011, 03:40:23 PM Oh yah ... I was thinking my range not yours ... or others with 90ish mile range.
Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: ryandalling on July 01, 2011, 05:16:05 PM Plus I may have to let you lead... I think I would get us lost... plus I lost my riding skills somewhere... I think i am total sally now.
Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: INFIDEL on July 01, 2011, 05:20:06 PM If all goes as foretold by prophecy we'll have a leader who won't get us lost.
Me leading is a lost guarantee ... although the route looks ridiculously simple. 26 to 47 to 411 to 504 get the end and turn around ... Since when does the board have spell check? :o Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: BackMarker on July 02, 2011, 02:37:24 PM While we're waiting for the report on the ride you got going, I'll just mention that I had an awesome ride on CRR yesterday, to Detroit, then back in the Valley (214/213). And I ran into DanTheMan at the Estacada Shell, what are the chances? Sweet ride he's got!
Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: ryandalling on July 02, 2011, 05:41:24 PM Crikeys that was a great ride... but I am tired... 300 miles for the first time this year... oye.
Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: scott_araujo on July 02, 2011, 05:47:19 PM Sorry I missed that one. I could use a 300 mile day. The wife and little guy are going to visit family in Cali in early August, gonna take me a looooong rid while they're gone, maybe ride down to meet them and then back. It was a really nice 4 day ride last time.

It was a bit cold & windy up on Bald PEak, but otherwise a good ride. Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: scott_araujo on January 01, 2012, 05:40:46 PM I didn't even notice the cold until we stopped. I did notice the gravel that was making my tail wag though. Good ride and so much warmer than last year. Maybe next year someone else will come with us :)
Scott Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: bnbmike on January 01, 2012, 10:27:06 PM Got my ride in. About an hour on my normal "secret route." Oh, and a passenger too.
Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: INFIDEL on February 11, 2012, 07:58:33 AM Last year was my lowest mile year on Lili in ten years.
I've averaged 4,000 a year. This year I need to ride 4-5K miles. I'm thinking of doing an Iron Butt as a part of that ... Who's with me? [Dolph] Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: krolik on February 11, 2012, 08:09:59 AM That's one way of upping your miles.

Just has to be mid-week with plenty of notice. Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: INFIDEL on February 12, 2012, 06:10:24 PM I was thinking 1K 1 day. and then either 2 500, or 3 300ish back.

[Dolph] Meet at Noon, Jan 1st at MotoCorsa. I'll be riding the Smeshnoy Krolik, bring your finest single ya got, twins are ok too. [thumbsup] Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: scott_araujo on December 26, 2012, 09:11:15 PM If there's no ice I'm there! Oh, and for those considering it, we usually take a short ride in the west hills followed by an extended coffee/hot chocolate session at Blue Moon. I think we made it about 8 minutes the first year before neither of us could feel our hands. Last year was maybe 40 minutes or so, much "warmer" relatively speaking.
C'mon peeps! Join us! Scott Title: Re: The Official NW RIDES Thread. Post by: scott_araujo on January 01, 2013, 02:38:59 PM Ugh! I punked out after spending the last three days in bed with the flu.
