cept for the twitch
My parents left me at the mall once. I was being whiney and they threatened to leave me and they did. They didn't go far but they went through with it. I turned out... ok... ;D
yea, but i bet your grandpa didn't look psycho like this crazy broad.
i never got the "i'll leave you right here" threat. it was always the "i'll stop this car and come back there and beat your ass" threat.
Definitely effective.
15 minutes from me.
Crazy
New twist to the Don't make me turn this car around gig...

Leave a 10 and 12-y.o. on the side of the road? Uh, no. Sorry, there are enough challenges with getting kids to trust their parents; abandoning them doesn't sound smart.
Shit...at 10 years old I would have just walked home. That's 5th grade...I was already riding my bike all over the place far from my house at that age. At 12 years old (7th grade) you'd be glad to have your mom drop you off...right about then you hate your parents anyway! [laugh]
Seriously though...that sucks and obviously isn't a good move. Sounds like she just snapped. :-\
shit my dad threw me out of the house at 3am and left me out there until school time because i kept bothering my brother. lol
i came out all sorts of make the beast with two backsed up. ;D
I wondered what Carol Kane has been up to lately...

10 and 12 years old is not that young. At 12 my friends and I would ditch school and take the train in to NYC. We would wander around the streets until it was time to come home. These two couldn't make it 3 miles? A 45 min walk to teach them a lesson doesn't sound too unreasonable. Would it have been better if she pulled over and smacked the shit out of them? They obviously didn't listen when she asked them to stop.
The article is bullshit. "upper-crust New York suburb" "$2million house" blah blah blah. The 12 year old caught up with the mother because she came back to look for them. Of corse they won't say that, it wouldn't be as tragic if she did. She found the 12yo when she went back and not the 10yo because the "good samaritan" took her to the police station right away. Personally, I would have waited with the kid for a little bit before I took her to the police. It's not like she dropped them off in the ghetto and said "peace out pregnant doges"... they were in a neighborhood with $2million houses.
I bet the next time they are in the car with her and she tells them to STFU, they will listen.

At first I thought this was horrible and I had flashbacks to my childhood.
Then I realized she stopped the car before pushing the kids out, so what's the big deal?
Yeah, like Vin said, why did "The girl gave police her mother's name and their address in well-to-do Scarsdale, and they asked Scarsdale police to check Primoff's $2 million house." need to be in the story?
I was 11 when I got the bright idea to talk back to my dad. I got slapped and walked my ass 5 miles to my house. Yes, I was in a good neighborhood. Anuone that says that a 12 yo can't walk her ass 3 miles through a good neighborhood to go home is part of what the problem in this country is. The amount of overprotectio that goes on in this country makes it's people weak.
I just realized that my last post could be construed as anti american.I meant none of the sort. I love this country and hate to see people ruining its future generations by shielding them from everything

I was 8 years old when I started taking the subway to school by myself in Chicago.
you don't even want to know the crazy shit I got up to when I was 8.
I'm not trying to make excuses for the mom, but if making a kid walk 3 miles in their own neighborhood is neglectful and traumatic, something has gone very wrong. It's not like she had them airlifted and dropped into a jungle with a compass and pen knife as punishment - they had to walk a little ways in a neighborhood they know.
Unfortunately the difference in time means a lot. I can't tell you how many times I was smacked or got the wooden spoon.
If you did that now CPS would be called and the parents arrested.

Making kids walk is a crime now? Does that mean that every kid I see walking to the mall/shool/park is in danger and can call the cops to arrest their parents?

Interesting how one day a mom is it is acceptabe for a mom to pretend to abandon her toddler fore a commercial, another day a mom is a criminal for making her poorly behaved preteens walk home...just sayin.

shit..... they didnt mention the DMF >:(
want me to add a shout on the blog? ;D
They finally mentioned the husband, but kept harping on that $2million house.
Are they trying to get people to hate them because they have a nice house? or do think that people with money have no problems?
once the kids catch on, next time they bicker and mom says 'knock it off', they'll answer 'i can do whatever i want, or I'll call the cops and tell them you kicked me out of the car.'
knew friends who had a manipulative daughter, and to get out of trouble, she ran to the teacher. vice principal wanted to make a name for herself, and asked leading questions and then the shit hit the fan. friends were drunks, child was scared for her life....yeah right!!!!
kids should be protected. not used against us.
I am a pediatric nurse and the pussification of America's youth is sooo evident. It's funny how so many kids are cool when their parents aren't around - I get the kids to help with whatever I am doing, like I'll hook up the syringe and let them flush their own IV's or whatever and they think it's fun and they aren't scared or agitated. Then mommy shows up who is an absolute spaz/emotional wreck and starts babying their kids and before you know it, the kids are terrified of the nurses because every time someone walks in the room, the parent jumps up and grabs the kid and starts saying, "It's ok, baby.. I'm not gonna let them mean old nurses hurt you or poke needles in you." [bang]
The parents who are calm and not over-protective usually have chill kids with great coping skills. One of the coolest kids I ever took care of broke his shoulder doing jumps on a dirt bike, by the way. [evil]
At the other end of the spectrum, I was walking down the hallway the other day and a kid who was at least 10 was acting up because he didn't want to leave (from visiting a patient). He was whiny and I heard him tell his parents, "If you don't let me stay, I'm going to start screaming and cause a scene". The parents were mortified as the kid launched into a tantrum. make the beast with two backs that. I wanted sooo badly to ask them if they wanted me to haul him off to a broom closet and give him a reason to cry. That kid needed to meet the wooden spoon.

I used to get that one a lot... "don't make me give you a reason to cry"
I forwarded the original article to my mother and she thought it was funny. She always told us that she wanted us to call the cops on her, "it would be a vacation from us little bastards"
