It has 80k mi, perfectly maintained and comes with an extra set of rims with snow tires.

i haave been looking, but the problem with california cars, or anything past pittsburgh really, is that i live outside of philly and will have to get it back here. driving that far after having surgery is not going to be a fun thing. plus, i will need to be able to get out there and back in 2 days. worth a try to see what the cost is going for these days.
My cousin was telling me last night his buddy bought some Volvo with 120k mi on it for 1800.
The dealer marked it lower than the 2200$ they wanted because the engine made a weird "pinging" noise.
So my friend Karl took it to his Euro mechanic........changed the oil........ping gone.
His last Volvo finally croaked with 325k mi on it. The engine finally died.
Yeah, if you aren't driving enough then an audi or anything over 3,000$ isn't worth it to you. Not to mention, when Audi's break...........it isn't cheap.
i got this in response to a craigslist ad i inquired about. think it's a scam? lol [laugh]
QuoteHello,
I'm SGT Daniel Reyes. My 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX(71,000 miles) is in perfect working condition, this detailed vehicle makes the exterior look like it just came off the assembly line . This is the second time when I try to sell my vehicle...First time I tried eBay because every time I only use 100% safe methods and I've sent the vehicle through the eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Program to a buyer from Alaska. I paid the shipping and insurance costs and when eBay requested the payment he refused to pay. Why? ... because he agreed to purchase the Vehicle in the first place, but typically didn't have the necessary amount to do so. ...if you don't have the funds available, you can't get the vehicle. For the time being, my vehicle is on eBay's hand and it's ready to be delivered to the next buyer. My price on it is $2,000.
The eBay auction ended last week and the guy from Alaska was the winning bidder. He could not pay for it. I need a new buyer to register to my eBay transaction. I was deployed US military base in training stationed in UK, getting ready for Afghanistan . The vehicle and its documents are in the DAS auto shipping warehouse waiting to be delivered. My wife just gave birth to my forth kid; I need all the money I can get to leave to her. Also, I hope to sell the car before we deploy to Afghanistan . It's fully paid for, fully functional, the title is clean.
Shipping, insurance and eBay fees have been paid since the previous transaction.
I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will get a 15 days testing period after delivery.
The transaction will be made only through eBay. eBay will be the third party that will hold the money till you will receive and inspect the car. If the car meets your expectations and you want to keep it you will have to tell them to release me the payment details so I can get paid. Reply me with your full name and shipping address so eBay can contact you regarding the payment and shipping process.
Let me know your thoughts,
SGT Daniel Reyes

You're getting 17 mpg? We've had our FJ60 for just a week & about 200 miles (100+ of that to drive it up from Phoenix) and I've got my fingers crossed for 13 on our second fill-up later this week (first was before we hit the road for home). Send me some of your mojo, please!!!
And to stop threadjacking... Much as we are enjoying being Cruiser Folk again, I remember living with an FJ40 in the Mid-Atlantic and the chances of The Major finding an old Land Cruiser locally that's affordable & not completely rotted are pretty tiny...
there is a guy in town here selling a early 80's GTI for $950
that'd make a fun recovery car ;D
I'm in the same boat (well, without the bodily injuries). Looking for a beater automobile to putz around CA in. Bit more spending cash though. The local salvage yard has some pretty cheap salvage titles that usually do the trick. I've had good luck with an old S-10 and will likely pick up an old 325i if the old porsche mechanic doesn't have a cheap heap.

DFW area of Texas.
I'm going to be honest. I checked it out, and it looks like it's in decent shape for an early 80's VW, but I'm not sure I'd be willing to bet on it for a long drive back to the west coast. Mostly due to the fact that it's an early 90's volkswagen [laugh]
it's gotta be around an 82, with 97k on the odometer. Body is pretty clean, interior looks like you'd expect. I popped the hood and the engine looked okay....no real bad signs. Looks like it's been a daily driver it's entire life...no garage queen for sure. I'll get the number on the window next time I go into town, and give the dude a call.

A first generation Miata. cheap to buy, cheap to own, reliable as a hammer, and fun to drive. I had a 1990 that I bought in 1999 with 135,000 and eventually sold in 2008 with 235,000 miles on it. No major mechanical issues. Only wear and tear items replaced. The only mechanical component that failed was a rear CV joint and I replaced the entire half-shaft with a used one for $50. Low mile used parts are available cheap. DIY maintanance is as easy as newer cars get. With a few basic tools and a Saturday's worth of time you can replace the timing belt, water pump, etc. During the 100K miles I had the car, it was on the track 4-6 times a year, autocrossed about the same, and never babied. The car came with all of the maintance records which never listed a clutch replacement, and I never did either, so it may well have been the original.

The moose humper is like, 7 feet tall. Probably be a bit tight.
Yeah, that could pose problems... [laugh]
I'm 6 foot tall. With over a 100K on the original driver's seat, it was packed down enough that I hade plenty of room under both the convertible and hard tops. For track days, I used an aluminum racing seat that sat on the floor (with brackets to the stock seat mounts and a cross piece on the roll bar) as it was the only way to get my helmeted head to fit below the top of the roll bar and under the hard top (if it rained).
I should add that at 235K, the engine still made spec compression numbers, though they were close to the minimum. It used about a 1/3 quart of oil between changes (Mobil 1 every 3-4K).

http://www.miata.net/ (http://www.miata.net/) The be all and end all of things Miata. The only Miata site you will ever need. Really. Check out the section on what to look for when buying used (http://www.miata.net/faq/usedmx5.html (http://www.miata.net/faq/usedmx5.html)). It you get to the point where you are seriously considering one, get in touch with your nearest Miata owners club. Be warned though, ownership can be considered induction to a cult. Kind of like this Monster thing [thumbsup]
BTW, though I mentioned the Gen 1 Miata (NA) in my original post, the second gen (NB) is better, but obviously more expensive...same basic mechanical package, but lightly restyled body. The current NC is a totally new vehicle (not even called a Miata by Mazda anymore), upgraded in overall level and pricing.

Excellent combo! The 1.8 with supercharger...not too much HP and that extra torque...sweet. Do you have LSD?
The space thing is what eventually led me to sell mine. After my divorce it became my only form of transport and it was not easy hauling all of my diving gear around. Well, I could carry all of my gear by taking the passenger seat out, but forget about carrying two divers and gear, even with a trailer! Had to rely on others for moving things around, so ended up buying a Mazda 6 Sportwagon. At least the Miata went on to be properly used: the young man that bought it has turned it into a SPEC racer (it was a full cage short of spec when I owned it). The young man is Pete Brock's son, which might mean something to those of a certain age :)

It probably makes your current condition look good.
Besides, anything you get that's "fun" will never hold a candle to any of the bikes, so you'll just get sick of it.
Go buy a civic :P
i found the one being discussed

i could handle $11K just for the sheer hilarity, plus it's a pickup so i could haul the bikes...in theory

Plus when you "fix" it and mess it all up, I can buy all the hardware off if to put the turbo on my truck. It would be as quick but I think it would be more fun as a 5 spd 2WD. [evil]

ah the cheapo model.
My wife's one daughter had exactly that car but not the convertible.
She never had any issue whatsoever with it and cried when she sold it.
She only did it because she needed a bigger car to haul around kids.
So until you get pregnant, enjoy it well. [thumbsup]
