I'd be happy to lead a group up to the diner and for a ride afterwards. Will be starting off in Bklyn. If you're interested in riding up to the diner via "the scenic route" or are interested in the ride afterwards, pm me.
For all the folks attending this get together (thanks for organizing Clifton), I know the area very very very well. As such - DO NOT speed in town, not even by 1 or 2 mph, trust me. Try not to ride like a jackass on some of the backroads outside of town... people live on these roads and don't appreciate motorcycles screaming by their front yards where little Johnny, Sally, and Rover play. This will only upset the homeowners and compel them to complain to the cops/local government about us motorcyclists. Just sayin.

GC, Thanks for organizing a post-diner ride! I was hoping someone would volunteer to lead!
For the records, the one GC ride I went on was a blast. The pace was respectful in the by-ways and towns and blistering fast in the twisties, but he always slowed/waited at the next major turn point to wait for the slower riders (like me!)....oh and "be home late" is an understatement even after I bail half way through.
[thumbsup]
I'm down for a little breakfast and some twisties. I won't be able to ride all day though, I'll probably just take a quick jaunt to the tip of the 'Skillz and i'll be heading back home. Studying for my last of 10 exams for that Monday.
goodluck [thumbsup]

If the post breakfast ride gets any bigger (not a bad thing) then pace will slow down (not a bad thing) and the route will be a bit easier (not as technical and all the roads will be paved and maybe even gravel free... we'll see). It'll prolly be a bit shorter too since the ultimate goal will be to make it to the Roscoe Diner for dinner.

Just checked out the route you had planned. Mostly seems great, but as far as I know, Lake Kanawauke Rd in Harriman State Park is closed. At least, it was last month when I tried it, and GC told me it still was a couple weeks ago. Of course, he rode it anyway--7 miles of gravel is his perfect road!
I just heard from a buddy that 2** going out of Roscoe is closed because the road washed out if you are taking that route.
Kanawauke was closed 2 weeks ago when cru and I rolled over to it. bridge has been out all season. :(
can we just post route numbers rather than "2** & 1**"? I don't think we have to worry about people knowning these roads. you can find them on any map.

Thanks for the update. I was hoping it would be fixed by now...apparently no luck. I'll tinker some more in Mapsource. Likely update for Seven Lakes Drive (South) to some residential streets to get over to Clinton road instead. Bit of a shame as the middle part of 17A is fun and scenic.
I haven't plotted a route to PJ yet but rest assured, I/we will be steering very clear of the PIP, Harriman, most of Sussex county - [bacon] is looking for us and my bike is too loud as it is [bang] and to be rolling with a whole pack v-twins... they're gonna hear us coming from miles away.
For me, the fun riding won't be until after breakfast. Anything before that will be an extended commute, albeit a nice scenic one...

Clinton road
CDawg, just as an FYI... Clinton Road... not good... if it's not closed like it usually is, then it'll be all types of broken pavement, dirt, and or gravel. Personally, I love that stuff but I know most don't. Just sayin'
A good way to head west from Harriman is to follow rt17A into Warwick, then jump on CR1 (Pine Island Turnpike) all the way. There's nothing but farms, cows, and rolling hills. You still have to watch out for [bacon] though, they hate us over there...

GC,
Thanks for the tip! I'm planning on pre-riding the route and checking out the diner this weekend to make sure everything is fine. So I can pre-ride Clinton Rd and adjust as needed. It was in pretty decent shape when I was there in late May, but who knows now! CR-1 is definitely a pretty way to get to Port Jervis, but then I'll miss out on Sparta and Sawmill ;)
i'd say let the roads less travelled be your route. Traffic will be stupid thru Warwick and surrounding areas at 10:00/10:30.
I was on Clinton Rd a few weeks ago and it was clear.
Also if you want a way from Harriman to 17 to 17A, try Arden Rd from Tiorati Circle.
Warning it is VERY bumpy, but fun ;D

which road? if Clinton then which way are you approaching it? From the North end I've had no problems, I turn off at Van Orden.
If Arden, its closed because the parking lot is full, but if you tell the officer you're going to Rt 17 they will let you through.
Approaching from the circle. I never asked the fuzz before I would just ride by shaking my proverbial fist. Now I'll ask to pass, thanks.

Thanks! I'll check it out this weekend!
Although I only live about 30 miles away, I think I shall plan out a 90 mile route to get there. ;D
This may be an interesting route for some. It's about 80 miles starting from rt 17 in Suffern. If I ride it, others may want to come along.

GC any idea of what time you are leaving Gorilla?
Good question...
For those meeting at Gorilla (http://www.gorillacoffee.com), let's say we meet at 8am with keys turned and kickstands up and bikes rolling at 8:30am SHARP.
I haven't come up with a route yet but trust me - whatever it's going to be, it's not going to be too exciting since we have to be in PJ by 10:30. This will be more like a commute with the real riding to be done after breakfast :)
For anyone thinking about meeting at Gorilla, please let me know so that I know to wait for you.

Or drive. It's cool man! Jus' an occasion to hang out...but if you are renting:
http://catalog.quadrental.biz/browseGroup.cfm?item_group_id=92889
Just as an FYI - this outfit (Chatworth ATV Rentals, LLC) does not have the 848 in stock yet - the ad is to drum up interest (IMHO). They DO, however, rent ATV's and have private trails for riding!!
They also have a 2007 CBR600 that will be rented this weekend! 8) [moto]

Ok here's the scoop...
I have a route set for the post breakfast ride. I tried to be kind this time omitted any road that's either - dirt, gravel, gravel & dirt, a fireroad, or horsepath. I also tried to make the route friendly for all skill levels - as in not too technical. Which isn't to say that ride will be boring, not at all, the roads allow riders to rider their own pace - you can ride it fast at 95mph+ or you can ride it slower. Either speed is fine. The mileage for the ride is also on the lower than usual side, it's roughly ~200 miles. Keep in mind that the route ends in Roscoe NY and we'll still have to ride home from there so our mileage for the day will be more.
Gas and gas stations... before we leave PJ we should all have a full tank so try to fill up before you pull into the diner (there's gas across the street), this will save a lot of time for everyone. As we head further north and west, they (the gas stations) become few and far between so for peace of mind I planned for stops at every available gas station... it's looking like we'll be stopping every 50/60 miles, good for the thirstier bikes and smaller bladders.
Lastly... if I order deep fried french toast for dinner at the Roscoe Diner, what am I gonna have for breakfast in PJ?

you can ride it fast at 95mph+ or you can ride it slower. Keep in mind that the route ends in Roscoe NY and we'll still have to ride home from there so our mileage for the day will be more.
Is this ride home going to turn into a 250 mile GCR type slab run. When we are all exhausted. I can`t wait. My 12k service will be do during this ride and my little 750 5 speed will be needing it after this one. [moto]
We've gotten too large for the original diner. Venue moved a couple blocks to:
Restaurant At 20 Front Street, Port Jervis, New York 12771, Phone: 845-856-8955
http://www.twentyfront.com/contact.html
Still meet at 10:30am w/ reservation under Clifton. Barbara took the reservation
Parking will be on-street parking, but restaurant assured there should be plenty of parking.
Ummm... I just took a look at that site.
Did you mention to her that this is a group of 20+ AND likely dressed in leather, and smelling of gasoline and exhaust fumes...
Just sayin' - the website makes it look like a real nice place!!!
i'd be afraid to take my jacket off for fear of knocking the lace doiley off of the credenza. [evil]

I did - I just forgot the smilies.
Also - I thought you had purposefully put back the "leaving early" thing when in fact I'll be riding all day.
All good!! [thumbsup]
I know I'm late to the party - but I am ichin to get this CBR wound out on a good long ride - If I can I would like to make the PIP pickup

Nope, the rides home on the slab are pretty civil unless 1 or more of the following happen - bad drivers from NJ out on the road, traffic, an abundance of 18 wheelers, NJ drivers, and traffic.
If any of those things occur then you'll see me give the newly established "every man/woman for themselves" hand sign which is me turning 180° in the seat and giving every one of youze the finger. Seriously.
If you should see that hand sign, then expect aggressive weaving in and out of cars, passing on on and off ramps, passing on shoulders, speeds well into the triple digits, lane splitting at high speeds, wheelies, stoppies, smith grinds, fufanus, abubacas, and 360 tailwhips... your basic squid type behavior.
Otherwise, it'll be nice and civil in a staggered formation and within the speed limit (mostly). :)

FWIW, regardless of the forecast, the rest of the Suspects and I will still be riding... even if it's already raining as we leave the house. The last ride we did we had to sit out a thunderstorm at a gas station for about an hour but after that we had some of the best riding of all time. If you still want to go riding regardless of the weather (cause it ain't gonna be raining everywhere at the same time even if it does rain), then let me know before Sunday as I won't be checking this thread anytime after Saturday evening.

After some back and forth with the other US's we determined...
We're still rolling and will still be meeting up at Gorilla at the expressed time (8am) regardless of what the weather is doing. See you all there.
there is only a 30 or 40% chance of rain and we know how accurate the forecasts have been. going up to 60% around 8. it shouldn`t be bad. Any tips on what to bring for a long ride home in the rain.

Rain gear, extra pair of gloves, towel, waterproof boots or jackets.
Extra helmet shield.... if you start with a dark visor. Chances are it WILL get dark on a US ride, having a clear visor is extremely helpful.
Also - KNOW YOUR LIMITS. If you aren't comfortable doing something, then DON'T DO IT. The list of people joining the Goldenchild led ride is 50-75% above the ususal 6-8 person ride, but the rules still apply. RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE. You should NEVER feel any pressure to ride a certain speed, or a certain pace. Do what you need, the group will re-form at major turns and stops.
Some of the US use iPods - if you do, that will be a big help on the slab home.
Although, I don't know how much the ride home will be on slab... 8)
Last update from me...
We're still going to heading out no matter the forecast might say, no matter if it's already raining here in NYC/Bklyn. Those of us that are meeting at Gorilla are still meting at Gorilla. Bikes roll out from Gorilla at 8:30am SHARP. If you'd like to sample some of their amazing espresso, please show up earlier like me. Please also show up with a full tank and tires checked...
:-*
rain or shine ill see you all at port Jervis. [moto]
I'll be at PIP 7-7:30 ready to roll.
MJlandy will be there, too.
It's 6am and the sky's looks good! See ya'll at Jervis.
Sorry to say that i have to bail despite being the closest one to this. [bang]
Family troubles to deal with.
It was great to see everyone.
Good to see the people you know and to meet new faces.
Hope everyone makes it home safe.
Thanks to CDAWG for setting this up!
Jim
Oh and some of the new faces that are not members should join ;D [thumbsup]
it's been too long, good to see you guys/gals again. i just wish i had eaten more.
Well, Klink and I saw everyone briefly :P It only took us three hours to get there from the Bronx. Maybe it is time for a GPS.
Absolutely AWESOME road selection CDAWG.
Had a blast - now time to order that gel seat for my CBR.
Craw! That was comical...
As Howie and I pull in to 20 Front, the line to Roscoe is just on their way out. :P
If it weren't for the nice bits [moto] in Ringwood, Wawayanda and Glenwood for the ride up, I'd be mad. Sorry we missed the hoedown folks, it would have been nice to catch up with the old farts and meet some of the new faces.
GPS? Bah! That's for sissies like goldenchild that can't find their way through a paper bag. ;^)
Oh yeah
Thanks for the treat to the meal.
and it would figure no rain for me on the way home. Hopefully the truck scared all the rain away for the rest of the ride as well.

Well... what to say...
First - Clifton, thanks so much for organizing this little get together. I'm happy it happened. Was great to see some faces I knew, was great to meet some faces I didn't. T'was a bit of a shame to eat and run but our little group showed up a wee bit too late. Was also funny to see so many non Ducatis show up for the meet, I think the Ducs were less than half of all the bikes.
The post brunch ride was balls deep kind of fun but before I get into it I'd like to give a GIANT thank you to Jake for sweeping today, you made riding up front a lot easier than it would've been. Thanks to all the folks that braved the forecast and decided to go ride with us, it was a great group! We moved well and nobody crashed even though some of the roads were slick, wet and bumpy. Speaking about wet... we made it all the way north to Deposit NY before the rain hit us, and hit us it did... those rain drops HURT! Unfortunately I cut the route short because of the weather which meant we faced a short slab ride to Roscoe. Let me tell you, that 30 mile ride to the Roscoe diner was some of the most fun I've ever had on a bike yet, seriously, I loved it! I couldn't stop laughing inside my helmet!
I have no stats since I forgot to reset the trip data on my sissy gps so I don't know our exact mileage for the day. I didn't take any pics either but a bunch of folks did manage to snap some throughout the day so you all should post'em up!
IG & Chromo... in 2 weeks time we have a date with some burlyass roads, don't forget! I'll remind you again as we approach that weekend.
Mook, Uni, RJ... hope you guys made it home safe and sound and drier than when you left Roscoe.
US's... GCR this week!!
NYMMC... thanks for being a great community!!
As GC has stated above, the rain hit us, but it was still good times. [thumbsup] Good to finally meet some ppl on the NYMMC & even ride with a few others. Sorry about Klink & Howie. :(
it was really great to meet everyone. Thanks to CDawg for leading our group up to Port Jervis.
When's the next ride?
Tony
(btw i'm the brit with the s2r)
I will have pictures posted up later today or tomorrow evening. (I was the fat bastard with a goatee in the Usual suspects T-shirt snapping away like I know what I'm doing 8)).
I got home around 7:15 this morning. I don't know about anyone else's mileage, but I rode 410 miles yesterday. 410 slow miles I may add. More to come.
Big thanks to CDawg for organizing this get together!!! [clap]
It was great seeing so many of us come out for this. I really hope there will be a next time!
Another big thanks to GC for leading the post-brunch ride. It was nice being able to just follow for a change.
Jake thanks for sweeping, I know that's not easy either. [clap] [clap]
Thanks to everyone that showed up!! [thumbsup]
Nice roads, great company, bacon at brunch, bacon at dinner... what more to ask for? See you guys in 2 weeks!

Big thanks go out to Clifton for organizing and Eric for the post breakfast ride. You guys are what made all of this possible. It was great having an NYMMC get together finally and seeing everyone despite the poor weather forecast. It just goes to show how strong the NYMMC is.
I hope we can do this again soon and if you need help organizing please let me know what I can do. Maybe a last meet before winter rolls in kind of thing? Hopefully the next time will have better weather. Howie and Mike, sorry you guys missed it, next time.
Great ride after, hope everyone made it through ok. That rain was really painful at times. Roscoe diner was fantastic after that downpour. Tommy, you rode a bike you aren't familiar with for long distances in the worst of conditions on roads you have never been on in a stressful state of mind without a scratch, that is truly a testament to how far you have come as a rider. [thumbsup]
IG and Terry you guys need to come out riding with us more. Sorry about that close call with the truck before I split.

Thanks to Clinton for setting this up, thanks to Kevin for leading us to the brunch spot cause we woulda NEVER found it otherwise. Thanks to Eric for leading/planning an awesome ride, Jake for sweepin (cause I know that aint easy, especially with 12!) and the rest of the US's as well. And big thanks to Jim for the t-shirts! They came in handy when we were soaked sittin in Roscoe eating.
For those that missed it, I hope you can join again soon, it's well worth it. They're adventures for sure.

Thanks everyone for an unforgetable day. It was great to meet all of you. The ride was an experience I will never forget. I never thought I would ever ride in weather that bad let alone at 80 mph and feel confident. Thanks jake for sweeping ( terry you didn`t have to for a change) and GC for leading us into some great roads. As a beginner. I love to ride w/ you guys. I know that I am in good hands and I always feel like I progress a lot everytime I go out. I feel very safe. That one stretch where we were all just cruising was great, I was doing so well, double the speed signs on most turns.( until Jake and Terry passed me like I was standing still) in do time guys. Quote of the day was when we met back up at Roscoes after we trudged through the monsoon. Eric says " That was F`n awsome". As I look back on what we went through yesterday I have a huge grin on my face and can`t wait till next time. ;D ;D ;D

We were wrong. So very wrong.

Here's the underpass in Fishs Eddy where Pak and I tried to warm up and dry off. For reference, 17 is above us, and this is facing due south.

I like the way this picture came out. It's not perfect, but I like it anyway.

Even the bikes look cold and wet. Pak's 749S and my CBR rental bike.

This picture means a lot to me because it symbolizes a typical Usual Suspects ride. The road isn't the best, the conditions may not be that great, but the road holds a ton of promise. Also, while the area may be absolutely gorgeous, you have NO time to appreciate its beauty because you're hurtling towards that 90 degree right hander, and it this point, you're effectively blind.

Is that pic of Jake on 30?
Great meeting a few more of you on Sunday. Thanks Clifton for organizing. Excellent pics from all who posted, but as the least photogenic of the group, I don't know how I turned up in so many.
Howie, be careful about getting a GPS. You'll get too used to it and when it doesn't work right you'll get annoyed. If you have to RMA it, you may wind up relying on a GfPS who is very slow on the google maps and very mouthy. When you're trying to get to breakfast, that's a bad thing.
Followed the ride for a few miles but broke off to do my own thing for the rest of the day. Though I may have stayed dry, you can take consolation in the following:
1. Last August I was stuck in a terrible storm and had to stop at that exact same gas station to buy plastic bags. The clerks were amused by me packing all my immediate possessions (including pockets, tank bag, and full backpack) into plastic bags. I think they were less amused by wet footprints and puddles all over the store.
2. The odds were against you. I spent some time in Binghamton and it has terrible weather. According to the Farmer's Almanac, it is top 10 for both rainiest and cloudiest (http://www.farmersalmanac.com/weather_chatter/2006/10/06/the-10-worst-weather-cities/). Guess where that weather heads next.
3. You had a chance to purchase Bee Caps at the Roscoe Diner, which apparently make you immune to the wetting effect of water among other miracles. Unless they've finally banned them.

No, it's taken from my POV from under the overpass mentioned a few pictures up. The overpass is actually Route 17 and the exit is Fishs Eddy. About 20 miles or so west of Roscoe.
Thanks for pics Tommy [thumbsup]
