Hey SacDuc,

I live out here in Colorado, and own a lowly '98 Porsche Boxster, which is a distant relative of that GT2, but I've had the honor of chasing those things around High Plains Raceway on countless occasions last year in my Boxster, along with other cars that are even more over the top.

Heck, at one track day last year, someone bought a Ferrari F430C, and drove it straight from the dealer to the track, and we all got to see the guy go around for half an hour straight with the Track Pro, and learn how to safely push the envelope of the car, little by little. That car is just awe-inspiring to listen to, and being passed by one at speed is glorious.

So you know what?
I have no problem at all with someone owning a car like the Porsche GT2, or the Ferrari F430's, or anything else, and I really don't mind them driving it on the street. It makes me wish I had the means to upgrade even just to a newer Boxster. It doesn't even need to be an S or a Spyder. Just the basic 2.9 will be fine for me.

I hope that I get the means to own one of these cars myself before they become illegal to drive on the street.

As for why it should be a track only vehicle, why should it?
If it meets emissions and safety standards, its none of our business trying to say that it doesn't belong on the street, in the hands of mere mortals.

Maybe things are just that different here in Colorado where there are great roads to drive cars on and test the handling and braking capabilities, and then the next day, go to a racetrack, and get your drift on, both in complete safety, with the world's biggest case of permagrin known to Americans...

It's clearly a carbon non-offset for the GT3 Hybrid they're building.  Keep up the good work Stuttgart.

If I could afford it, damn straight I'd get one. Just like we all bought a Ducati instead of a Yamahonkowazuki. We could afford it and wanted something different to set us apart right?
A 50cc Spree is all we NEED to get around, but that's not much fun is it  [moto]

Ugh.  [bang] I have no complaint. None whatsoever. With you or your porschey friends. At all.  I'm just trying to understand why someone would buy something that is not capable of ever being used. I will go ahead and add this to my list of questions I've never been given a straight answer to from anyone, right below, "How is your life appreciably changed from one presidential administration to another?" and "Why does an omnibenevolent God allow his believers to suffer horribly?"

Why does someone need more power in a vehicle than is possible to ever use? A great mystery of our times.

sac
sac,
I've been buying cars that I could never tap into the capability that is there for the taking and the 1098-R and the S 1000 RR I'll never ride them to there potential ......but every now and then I find a straight stretch of road w, no traffic and I can wind them out ( not the RR yet since it's not broken in ) in the 1st 3 or 4 gears and that gives me a hell of a thrill.

0-135 is pretty thrilling especially when it happens in about 6 seconds.

I don't need the other 50 mph.
