Remakes

I'm getting really tired of remakes. American remakes of old American movies, American remakes of foreign films, foreign film remakes of American movies, it doesn't really matter. I've seen very few good remakes. So, which ones have you liked and which ones have you just totally hated? Oh yeah, if the remakes has a different name let us know the name of the original too so those of us that aren't familiar with it can get the whole story.

I think the Lake House was a decent remake of Il Mare, a Korean film. There were actually some parts that I felt they did a bit better than the original but it's hard for me tell which one I liked better.

I didn't particularly like the Departed. I can see how I could like it if I hadn't seen the original Infernal Affairs but I have and was disgusted with the remake. It also pissed me off to no end that they could win awards for best picture when it wasn't even an original story.  >:( That just feels like cheating to me.  >:(

I just realized that there's a My Sassy Girl remake coming out and I could barely watch through the trailer. I have rarely felt so bad about a movie that watching the trailer for it could make me feel kinda sick, seriously, but I did when I watched this one. I really liked My Sassy Girl and am horrified at the likely tarnishing of its name.  :'(

Last fall I heard rumor of a possible Bullitt remake w/ Brad Pitt. If it ever happens, I'd say he's about the only person that has a chance of pulling it off. But, I'm not getting my hopes up.

Steve McQueen would've kicked Brad Pitt's ass. I'd hate to see a remake. It'd be some stunt driver sitting in the passenger seat who'd have practiced doing all the cool car driving skills to make Pitt look cool. Lame.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Buckethead

Red Dragon > Manhunter

If Anthony Hopkins hadn't come along and owned the role of Hannibal Lecter, Brian Cox would have been acceptable.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

Popeye the Sailor

Bruce Willis's "Last Man Standing" was just a remake of Eastwood's "For a Few Dollars More". Though Eastwood's movie was just a remake of the ancient "Yojimbo".

As usual, the ancient black and white foreign film is better.

I heard Nicholas Cage and Keanu Reeves were going to share the role of Steve McQueen.  They change places halfway through the movie and no one can tell the difference.  They both timeshare the same molecule of talent and the current lease agreement does not allow either of them to have it for an entire role.

Halloween the remake sucked a$$.

I couldn't bring myself to watch the remakes of La Femme Nikita or How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  Why mess with something great?

;)  [laugh]

Yeah..you could pretty much take all the Matrix movies..delete Keanu and just leave the chase scene with Trinity on the Duc and I wouldn't know the difference.  Definitely an improvement!!

McQueen didn't do all of the driving himself. He had a stunt driver as well.

What really sucks is being old enough to have seen the original when it predated all this remake bullshit.

Some remakes are just unnecessary. Rollerball for instance. Good 70's flick that had a message. Remake completely off the mark.

One the other hand some remakes are completely necessary and 100x better than the original. For instance, Battlestar Galactica.
