Well my s2R had a visit to the Doctor, and I have had the 696 experience while waiting for my S2R to return

I won't have it for long, but it was interesting the things I have noticed.

* overall I don't hate or love the 696, It doesn't reach out and grab me like the S2R/S4R shape did, but that is a personal thing. If I was in the market now, I would have to say I would most likely walk away from the 696, it did nothing for me.

* Much better brakes than the S2R 800, they are a little grabby, but they might just need bedding in.

* The seat is, well, odd, it mashes your bits into the tank, I just couldn't find a comfy position, no matter what I did. Not a big fan of the bigger tank shape, but I do like the intakes.

* Swing arm is to heavy to look at, they have painted it black to try and draw attention away from the size of it, but it's still a big piece of metal!

* Is it just me, but it seems to have lost it's low down torque, you now have to give the thing a good rev to get it to work, I don't think that is keeping with the Monster tradition.

I prefer the way you can see through the older bikes (A point noted by the original Monster designer Miguel Angel Galluzzi) He said you should be able to see through the monster at various points, Light passes through the frame and motor, the principle of motor fame and wheels and stuff all else, The new monster has to much covering the good stuff in my opinion.  The bike should be simple and basic, aggressive.
A number of the Mag's have said the Monster has grown up and developed some table manners, but you buy a sterile japanese bike if you want table manners.

I hope I'm wrong, and please don't think I'm putting down the current 696 owners, but It's not my personal choice, I'm very interested to see what the bigger brother to the 696 looks like.

So, apparently it's going to be introduced in Cologne, not Milan.
