I have decided to pick up a 696 after some hard thought and what not... should get in december. I was thinking of the same mods... polishing the sub-frame & swing arm, and chopping the metal piece that holds the rear pegs. I found a cheap place to powder coat parts... so I am interested in seeing what I can take off and coat... I am also hoping i can black out the exhaust pipe exiting the engine. all and all... should be a work intensive winter.

have you also noticed that you can shorten up the rear subframe even more. if you are chopping the passenger pegs you could add that to the list since you won't need the extra seat length. I'll be curious to see if anyone is going to do a tubular rear subframe and swingarm for the bike.

i think if you do that, the boom tubes or realllll short pipes would be better since you won't have any A** to speak of and the pipes will be off in lala land.

how about black ceramic coating the exhaust and pipes so they aren't so stick out apparently across the motor. honestly the routing keeps the bottom of the bike real clean.

i have tons of ideas, but no interest in tearing apart my bike, hell i put the CW short tail and higher temp lights and blew fuses. not my forte. but designing... i can come up with a lot of different directions.

FYI
this bike was not commissioned or built by Ducati, but a labor of love by an independent  builder/fabricator Bryan P. from NJ in collaboration with Martins in PA. Bryan worked feverishly to get the bike in a presentable form to show off at the Indy GP. there are a few items to be finished before the bike is completed, but he wanted everyone to see it. I think it is a tremendous effort on his part ! Martins will be doing a feature on there web site in the future on this bike so stay tuned!!

Are you talking about the Hyper that he did?

I agree.  And I might like it even less after having seen it in person.

The one cool thing about it, which I'd never picked up on through online pics was the desmo valve print in the tank side panels.

There is also an accessorized 696 on display with "sharpie" grafitti art on the tanks drawn by Roland Sands. Very cool!  Grin

I'm going out on a limb here, but I think that high gloss subframe blends better with the front frame. It makes the whole look more coherent. I wonder what that would look in red.

When you walked into Ducati Island through the bike entrance, if you kept walking straight ahead 15' you would've run into it.

It was outside the SBK Concorso tent on the left side of the entrance.
