I'm just going to amp up the search for a new job..... and, work on sucking it up, and go with the boss mans flow, even though I dont agree with him.

I just got off the phone with the parent companys Tehachapi store, and they are pretty much in the same boat as I. The manager over there, has worked for the guy for many -o- years, and she has learned to just kind'a keep her mouth shut when the owner make the beast with two backss things up, then goes about fixing his mistakes when his back is turned.... and as she says.... it pays the bills.

Good man smood man-he's screwing his own businesses/life up-let him. You need to do what's right for you and yours. Snake his business, take his vendors, customers, and your reputation and start your own business. Take your employees with you, too. Work for yourself-not some jackass.

Home improvement business's aren't really worth anything. Window companies that manufacture their own product are. All a window or kitchen or roof company really is, is a  sales team and either a link to installers or on staff installers. You (joel) are the sales team. You know well and good that anyone can buy from your vendors. All you need is some installers and some advertising. If you bought the company you would be paying to purchase...yourself.

The company I sold for was offered to me. I turned it down as my life was headed in a different direction. In retrospect I think the guy that bought it regret's it.  He paid whatever he paid for the company name, phone number, client list, logo, etc. What he also owns is the responsibility to warranty and service all the past clients. I still sell for him. He still installs. In the end the only jobs we get are the ones we find...just like it always was. He could have just started a new company and been in the same postion he is now but without the privelage to warranty the old jobs and without spending the money to "buy" the company. We still have the same cell phone numbers which are where the clients call us anyway.

If you want to stay with the guy you are with why not give him the reality talk and explain to him what you have explained to us?

Do whats in your heart, but at the same time, you should be looking at this as an opportunity.

You know the business, the clients, the vendors.

You know the numbers side as well.

You have most of what you need right there, why not run with it?
