998 and 999 both used the testastretta motor

The 998 and 999 R models used a true 999 motor. The tricolore used the 998cc motor used in the 998 and lower end 999's. So yes, the motor was used in the 999's but the thread was talking about which motor was in each monster model not which model sbk it came from.

916, 996, and then 998.

True, but it's splitting hairs.  [beer]

Also, I made a typo, was supposed to put 998.

Ahh, ok, thanks.  So yeah, new owner, sorry no pics, #196 is 100% stock from what I can tell.  Has just under 3,500 miles.  Missing the exhaust shields on the pipes; hopefully previous owner finds them.  Haven't had any luck finding any on the net.  The front fender had a pretty significant gouge in it.  It is currently at a high end body shop getting repaired.

Great bike, I really love it.  I owned 3 Ducatis prior to this one: 97 - 748, 98 - 916, and a 95 - Super Sport.  This one is by far the most comfortable.  Has just as much power as my 748 did.  The 748 was heavily modded by FBF.

I read through the thread here and see some good posts, thanks for the info you guys passed on.

A couple of Fogarty Questions

I have done a lot of looking around on the net but cannot find answers for the following.  As I posted not long ago, I recently bought #196.  The issue I have is the previous owner is deceased.  I purchased the bike from his girlfriend.  So I cannot get answers on what I have.  The bike looks to be all stock except that the two exhaust shields for the Termi pipies are missing.  I mentioned this to the girlfriend and she told me that the previous owner had a box of stuff for Monsters (he owned two at the time of his death).  I was hoping this box had the shields I was looking for.  However, it did not.  But it did have some parts which made me question what is supposed to be on this bike.

My bike came with Carbon Fiber side panels marked "Monster S4 Fogarty"  In the parts that were found were two side panels marked exactly the same way but not on Carbon Fiber, but rather black painted plastic.  What is stock?  What came with the bike?  I have seen both on pictures on the net, did the bike come with one and the other offered as an option or as an accessory?

There was a Ducati Performance Carbon Fiber Clutch Cover.  I have only seen a couple of these from pics on the net.  Did the bike come stock with this?

Last part in the box was an ECU.  I haven't been able to figure out what it is.  It has a red Ducati Performance plastic cap covering the terminals.  It has the number 96506200B And written on it is: Centralina Gruppo Racinng MS4 ECU Exhaust CPL MS4 - Now that is on the red cap.  There are two stickers on the ECU body one is "MS4 DUCATI006" and the other is "S16DA037"  I cannot tell if it is used or not, but it does have a small spider nest in one of the through bolt holes. That wouldn't be there if it was mounted, but I have no idea how long this piece has been sitting in storage.  There is only one maintenance record for service on the bike and there is no mention of replacing the ECU.  What is even more curious is the ECU that is currently on the bike has a sticker on the side of it that bears the number : 96506200B, same as on the red cap.  Does anyone have any insight here?  Do I have an extra ECU or do I have one that was replaced?  I would like to see if the other ECU works.  Can I just plug and play?

Thanks in advance for any help.  Mike

hello paratrooper, welcome to the board!

as far as i know, the CF side covers and clutch covers came stock on the Foggy's and is what was on my foggy when i bought it used a few years ago.
i don't have an answer regarding your ECU question. someone will probably chime in with the answer.
i can check the numbers on my ECU. where is it located as i've never had to check on it.

Hydra, if you lift up the fuel tank, you will see the ECU located on the right side of the bike almost on top of the battery.  Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

Checking the part number 96506200B shows it's a "RACING ASSY ECU MS4"

I'm pretty sure the red cap is from the ECU that's on your bike now, which is the one to match the full system that's on there.
The ECU that's not on the bike is the original standard one.

Good Morning Folks! Just chiming in bcz I found this thread while doing a google search for my Foggy! Glad to see that everyone has enjoyed this wonderful machine/work of art. I live in Washington DC and I am the caretaker of the #14 version. This bike has been a life changer. I now own a 998 also but the Foggy crushes it in terms of looks and sound!

I could go on all day about my bike but I want to take a quick minute and respond to the brother who is looking for a heat shield for his bike. Unlucky for him, one sold last week on eBay for $1! Amazing! There are more on there but nowhere near that awesome price. So take a look and I am sure that you can find one. If I were more prepared I would have supplied the link. My apologies.

All the same, I will post some pics of my "wheels" soon. Keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down!

Cheers!

DC DUC, welcome to the DMF.  The CAM folks are a fun group.  Ironically I think I've seen your Foggy rolling around DC.  Nice Ducati man.
