When we were at Road Atlanta last Labor day for the races, my wife calls and says there's this dog sitting on our front porch. I'm like no way, get rid of it somehow......My wife came up and joined us for the last day. When we got back, he was still there. I'm like crap, not another dog. Came and sat right next to me, and looked me right in the eye. Well long story short, he's with us now. 

Sad part was that another dog, our old greyhound " Marty aka Kiowa Mags Marty" died a few weeks later from a fall, that exposed a tumor. Sad but happy times. Don't now how to explain that one.

Taygo  Got Taygo 7 years ago, and asked my daughter at the time what to use for her name. She says Taygo.

Taygo? what's her full name?   

"Taygo the puppy daddy", so she's named Taygo

After having a Beagle I don't know if I'll ever own a different breed of dog.

mags and I are considering a bulldog for our first dog, but have been warned they're a handful for dog newbies.  Are they that bad if given proper training/attention?

That would be a Pitbull, or Staffordshire Terrier...pretty much the same thing.

Awesome dogs, but they take a dedicated owner.  They need to be well trained and obedient, especially considering the general publics view of them.  Great, loyal, handsome, energetic (really energetic) dogs though.  Tons of them at shelters, even pups.

Here's a pic of my sister-in-laws rescued Staffie (on left), along with my pit (we think)/lab mix.  He looks similar to m9hundo's...and is a super cool dog.

I had a pair of Beagles, wonderful dogs.  When I bought a place in town, they didn't do well, so they live in the country with my parents where they can chase squirrels and enjoy not being cooped up all day while I'm working.  They're only 20 minutes away so I get to, and do visit them often

Damnit.   I thought it might be, but the non-clipped ears always throw me off.  I dated a girl who had 5 rescues between herself (2) and her family.  I really love em and know a fair amount about the breed.  I'd love to rescue one, but mags is a bit scared of them.  It's not pits specifically, she was attacked by a medium-large dog as a child so she's still a little shy. We've just gotten approval from the landlord to have a dog but pits are regrettably (and unfortunately, around here, expectedly ) not allowed.  It might be for the best as we're in an apartment and I'd really rather have a house & at least a dog run for a breed that energetic.  Then again, it appears when we do have the house that some places won't give us home owners insurance with a pit. Your pups are beautiful, have you had any problems with insurance/etc?  I wonder if it gets past kneejerk reactions of landlords/insurers if you refer to it as a Staffie/Am. Staff?  I'd like to be able to help the breed, one day...

I'm a big adoption guy too.  Both of mine are adopted...although the Dane is from my other sister-in-law.  They were going to give her up to a rescue  , and I couldn't let that happen.

Our homeowners insurance (Allstate) gave us a list of prohibited dogs.  Pitbulls were on them, as were Rottweilers, Akitas, Dobermans, GSDs, Cane Corsos, and a few others.  It was a bummer because I really wanted to rescue a pit since there are so many.  Gabby (the black one) has enough Lab in her that all her papers say Lab Mix...and she's a rescue.  We also have a cool vet that we asked not to put Pitbull in her paperwork, even though she agreed she was part Pit. My sister-in-law with the Staffie/Pit in the picture (his name is Johnny) lists hers as a Staffie and it's been OK for their homeowners insurance.  I think it depends on the insurance company though.  Pisses me off that insurance companies do that with certain breeds.  I guess if everyone was a responsible owner it wouldn't have happened though.

Mine is a second hand dog too. Original owners couldn't keep her in a yard. I admit it has been a challenge for me too at times.

Yeah I'm thinking about getting another one eventually, I have a young daughter though and my hands are quite full enough. It's taken me awhile to get her to respond well to voice command. I had to learn to get and hold her attention right off the bat. If I don't establish an activity right off the bat she's off on a scent. So I have to keep her busy. Great dog though, she's fantastic with my little girl. I had a heeler before and she was over-protective and I ended up having to put her down after several bites, and then the dis-embowelling of another dog(broke my heart). I wanted a superfriendly breed after that, one that was never known for aggressive behaviour. I wanted a dog that any kid or animal could approach and pet/mug without any retaliation. She fits the bill, at worst she gets up and leaves any situation that makes her uncomfortable. She's awesome!

This is Ozzy,  He is now 6 years old.  I rescued him from the Humane Society.  He is the last of four.  As you can tell he used to love to chew on Chairs. lol  Don't mind the dust, thats in the spare room and we have not yet completed it yet.

I love my dog but a pitbull is not a pet for everyone. They require lots of attention, affection, when I first got him he was 9 months. He was a co-workers of mine and he could not keep him in his apartment for obvious reasons.  They are the most affectionate, intelligent dogs I have ever encountered. I love my dog and when I hear they want to ban them from certain county's it really chaps my hide. It all boils down to the owner. He is 4 years old and he has never attacked anyone other than cats, possums, and basketballs.
