I respect your time and effort and workmanship..........

that bike is a waste of ducati parts.

That  definitly has been one thing I have been looking into. I  wanted to get the bike together and see how it looked. It has a 190 on it now.  I  dont know if I would have  clearance for a 230.  Do you know how wide a 230 is?  The swingarm is pretty close I have about 1/2 on inch until it touches the tire. I wanted to keep the stock 998 swingarm on it. I was approched  by a company that made wide tire kits but, I  didnt want to change up the swingarm.  I do want to keep it looking somewhat like a ducati. It has Olins R&T front forks with Discacciati 6 piston calipers, Penski Racing rear shock with the stock rear swingarm.

If you want to stay with a stock looking swing arm, you may have to go with the mag corse swing arm. I didn't realize the 190 was so close to the stock one. I can measure  the tire-swing arm on mine to give you an idea (it will have to be after Christmas).

well, i'll chime in since i have seen this bike in person at a local show.

The craftsmanship and paint are second to none.  The details in the paint are crazy.  I can only imagine the time and effort that went into the paint work alone.  Anyone that has built a project like this can certainly appreciate the time and effort that went into it.    I'm sure that I'll see it again this Spring, and I can't wait.  Well done Rick. A 190 looks just fine. You will sadly deprive your wife of a properly handling bike if you waste your time and money on a 230 conversion...   [bang]

Ya know, the bike ain't my cup of tea, but I do find the "waste of Ducati parts" comments a bit ridiculous. The vast majority of folks here have swapped out the mirrors, seats, exhaust, bars, etc for something they deem "better".

Then you toss those old parts aside, to be ignored. If that's not a waste of Ducati parts, I don't know what is.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

+1

In the same way as I wouldn't want to personally own a top fuel dragster 'cause they're "not my cup of tea", I'm really glad there are other people who _are_ prepared to sink the time and money required to make stuff like this, 'cause it's always interesting to me when people _really_ push the envelope. I (nearly always) love Monsters with a bunch of catalog sourced billet and carbon bits bolted on, but bikes like this are on another planet compared to most "cool" Monsters. Props to you Ricky! (And you as well Mark, and to whoever laid that paint down...)

big (Oh, and I really like your girls bike Ricky...)

Flyin,  I agree I  wouldn't  want to go larger  than a 190  on  my wife bike. I was actually talking about the Hyper Devil.  I might have misunderstood Monstermans post. I  thought he was talking about the choppers back tire.

Oh, OK. Not sure I'm on the right page either then; but in the case of the Chopper, it's all about the looks and the attitude... I would do the conversion on that bike.

I was talking about the hyperdevil. That is why I said I would check the measurement on my Mag Corse swing arm

Ricky,

If you decide to go with a wide rear and  change the wheels and want to sell those that are on it please let me know, I may be interested if the price is right.

What's involved with swapping the Corse Mag Swingarm to my bike?

Wow...that's a nice bike.  [thumbsup]

Reading this thread and the negative comments is entertaining. I've seen these reactions anytime someone breaks the mold of cookie cutter bolt on mods that are peer approved. Funny how that actually doing something unique is considered a "waste of parts". I guess to those people, their bolt on bling is just that...parts. But to someone like this bike builder, each part was either hand built or modified from stock to be truly unique. I look at the negative comments as a sort of inspiration. It shows that whatever the object is, it's so unique that it invites lots of opinions both positive and negative.
When I first mounted superbike bodywork to a Monster to race it, I got a lot of negative feedback too. Now three years later, I'm sitting on a pile of trophies and championship wins that I earned on that bike. I could have just bolted on a bunch of brand________ parts and parked it outside of the coffee shop to look cool, but somehow I don't think I would be as happy. ;)

Sweet bike man. Hopefully you win some trophies for your hard work because I think you certainly deserve it.

Cool bike! Certainly not an "everyday" bike, let alone a Ducati... - Chris

Is this bike going to be at Daytona? I would love to see it in person.  If so what days and where?
Thanks

I'm not sure of the exact date for Daytona but the bike will be at the Easy Rider show in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 24 to 25, 2009. I  will try  and keep everyone up to date on  the other shows in 2009
