So the bowl season starts this weekend.  What games are you guys looking forward to?

Me;
All the bowls with big ten teams.  Especially the Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and Outback.  I think Penn State has a better chance than most people are giving them.  Their defense will keep them in the game and their style of offense is something that USC does not see much of.  Confidance pick- Michgan State will beat a very over rated Georgia team.

Of course I am looking forward to the Fiesta Bowl.  I learned my lesson on shit talking earlier this year but I do think the Buckeyes can beat Texas but probably won't.  Here is my assessment;  1.  They have not seen a defense anywhere near OSU's, 2.  They have not seen a running back that can hold Beanie's jock.  3. Ohio State has trouble with running QB's so putting pressure on Colt is the key.  Finally, I am curious to see how Texas gets up for this game.  I watch a lot of sports television and all I hear is how Texas should be in the championsip game.  I rarely hear anything about the matchup with the Buckeyes.   Could be a really good game or could be a Texas blowout.

All the rest of the bowls are pretty good too.

I'd like to see Utah perform well against 'Bama whether they win or lose.

TCU-Boise should be good (or at least better than Cincinnati-Virginia Tech) - sucks those teams get a BCS bowl over the more deserving WAC/Mountain West schools.  Cinci has overcome a lot this year, but I don't think they could beat TCU or Boise.

The only team less deserving of the bowl they are in is Notre Dame.  That's a travesty.  Nothing against them, there are just too many bowls and the bar is therefore set too low.  Oh, and they had an awful year.

Title game should be pretty damn entertaining.  At least there should be an offense on both teams this year.

Want to see JoPa get another Rose Bowl win.

Heck, I'd even like to see Ohio State redeem themselves by beating Texas, though I don't think it will happen.  They're certainly playing better than they were in the beginning of the year.  I just think Texas has to tools to beat anyone this season.  And they're mad.

Should be some great games.

I would really like to see Utah pull one out too.  They definetely have the team to do it.  Really Alabama beat no one and got beat by the only good team they played.

The TCU/Boise game is probably the best non-bcs bowl.

I'm happy that my little Demon Deacons are going to their third bowl game in a row, even if it is a very minor bowl game. Not bad for a school with about 4,000 undergrads.

Texas is going to have their way with the Buckeyes. And that isn't just the bitter little Michigan fan in me speaking.
You say Texas hasn't seen a RB the likes of Beanie? I agree. But Penn State is the closest thing that OSU has seen this year that resembles a Texas or an Oklahoma. And we all know how that one turned out.

I am interested to see how the Hawkeyes do against the 'cocks. Fact is though, Iowa was 12 points awy divided between 4 games away from a run themselves.

Let's compare some notes and they are a pretty good comparison considering they played alot of the same defenses...looks like Shonn Greene comes out WAY ahead of Beanie...just sayin'

G    RUSH   YDS    YPG      AVG   TD     REC    YDS  YPG   AVG    LNG  TD
Shonn Greene
2008 Iowa (8-4)          12   278      1729   144.1   6.2     17      8        49    4.1    6.1     23    0

Chris "Beanie" Wells
2008 Ohio State (10-2) 9    191      1091   121.2   5.7       8      7        26    2.9    3.7     13    0

I understand that Wells missed 3 games due to injury but Greene rushed for over 100 yards in EVERY single game and failed to score a touchdown only once this season. Green rushed for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns against a Penn St. D that held Wells to 55 yards and no TDs. Wells vs. Wisconsin...168 yds and 1 TD...Greene, 217 and 4 TDs.

I am not by any means an Iowa fan but to say that Texas' D couldn't hold Beanie's jock is ridiculous in the extreme considering he isn't even close to the number 1 RB in the Big Ten for 2008 let alone the nation.

And not a single QB in the Big Ten (except maybe Juice) moves like Brennan.I think OSU, like in years past facing big name SEC team is in a rude awakening in their matchup with the Big 12 South.

Again, not a Texas fan by any means but OSU isn't on the same level as the Longhorns this year...not by a longshot.

Kind of hard to compare Beanie to Green when he played 3 more games and had 87 more carries.  Also, our passing attacked sucked this year and teams loaded the box.  I'm not saying Greene isn't good but Beanie is a way better back.  Have you seen his stiff-arm?

Also, I know Greene isn't going anywhere but lets see where the NFL draft places him among running backs.  I'd bet you 5 bucks he's the first taken if he goes.

I also didn't say the Texas D couldn't hold his jock I said they haven't faced a running back who could hold his jock.

Like I said Texas might have their way with us but if our defense can stop them a little and we can control the clock by running the ball well then we have a chance.  Plus for once the lay off helps us.  Pryor gets almost a whole spring's worth of practises as the starter.  Now if Tressel comes out and sticks to the same old Tressel ball we will get crushed. I'm hoping he lets the D come out gunning for McCoy.  If we blitz a lot and can get pressure on him we can get him to make mistakes.  As for the offense we are going to have to test the not so good secondary of Texas to take pressure off of Pryor and Beanie because their D line is really pretty good.  Orakpo or whatever is a beast.

By the way, what bowl is Michigan playing in?  Sorry had to.

No bowl...but keep in mind a couple of things...first and foremost...

Team         Years   Won   Lost   Tied†   Pct.   Total Games
Michigan     128      869    286    36      .745   1,191

Ohio State   118      798    304    53     .714    1,155

All-Time Series Michigan leads, 57-42-6
Michigan - 11 National Titles
Ohio State - 7 Nationa Titles

And secondly,
Harry G. Kipke- He was the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines 1929-37. He helped the team to win four Big 10 titles. He guided the team to win two consecutive National Titles in 1932-33. The 1929 Wolverines finished the season a dismal last in the Big Ten. In the next 5 years, they would win 4 out of 5 Big Ten championships and back to back National Titles.

History tends to repeat itself.

No matter how much I want to piss kerosene on Tressel's sweater vest, I will be rooting for the Big Ten in the bowl games.

ANd back to Shonn Greene, I watched every televised game Beanie played in this year. I watched most that Greene played in. I will give you that Wells is a freight train runner. But when he needs finesse, he falls short. Greene on the other hand can bowl you over one play and have you tackling thin air the next. If I was an NFL coach, I would pick up Wells as a change of pace and 3rd down back. I would pick up Greene to be my star.

Dude your crazy.  Beanie has no finesse?  In the secondary he is just about untackleable.  He doesn't need finesse when he can throw anyone two the ground or stiff arm someone into the end zone.  Yes he is a freight train but what makes him different than other big backs is his speed and ability to make cuts. Now he might not be able to break someone's ankles like Barry Sanders but he does have a lot of agility.

Also, He might have missed only 3 games but he played hurt (and yes I know all running backs play hurt) for the whole season.  How many running backs can have a torn ligment in their big toe of their plant foot and still be hurtling guys (Beanine did it 3 times this year).  Besides playing hurt all year, our offfensive line save for maybe 2 games sucked the big one and he was getting pretty much everything on his own.

Enough  of this anyways.  We can both agree on wanting the Big Ten to win some bowl games.

Once again I am not trying to say that the Buckeyes are going to beat the Longhorns just that we have a better chance than most think.
You can look up all the stats from the 30's that you want and that won't change the fact that Rich Rod is not going to take Big Blow to 4 Big Ten titles and back to back National Championships.

I am a Texas fan, and of course OSU has a chance, particularly if Texas comes out flat. I'd much rather see us play USC because I know the team would be up for that. I mean, who wouldn't love another opportunity to whoop the Trojans? Now, OSU's a solid team. Pryor's got unbelievable talent and he's way further along than VY was as a passer early in his career. Course VY was a much better runner IMO.
The 'Horns do pretty well against the run except against Oklahoma State. I also think you underestimate our very young secondary some. Keep in mind Texas played a lot of man coverage against wide open spread offenses all year, so if the front does a reasonable job against the run, OSU's passing attack doesn't scare me at all.
Anyway, I respect the OSU program as do most Texas fans. I enjoy seeing the traditional football powers do well. I just hope Texas comes in fired up and blows OSU out on the 5th  ;D

Swampduc,  I can't agree with you more.  I hope that both teams come out fired up and ready to go.  It could end up being a very good game.  A great offense against a great defense.   I just can't wait for the 5th.

I wish you guys were playing USC too,  I really wanted to play Alabama.  They do not scare me at all.  I think Utah as a great shot at upseting them.
