Update: now with checkerboard stripes! They look really good, in my humble opinion anyway. Also the vintage style logo almost perfectly covers the Triumph logo so I lucked out there too. Finished off the tail with an Isle of Man decal my brother picked up for me while working there last fall.

Oh, and please excuse the messy background, and garage pics. :-[ We just got another +15csm from Old Man Winter so the Monster is still in hibernation mode.

Thanks guys. It'll look even better when I can finally take it outside! Stupid winter >:(

No really, pompetta, I think it's almost done. Although I did have plans for those brake lines...

Nice work Markus -

glad to hear it's "finished" [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

'cept for those brake lines
Desmosedici - it's the new Paso (except the bodywork doesn't fit as well)

I also really like how the fairing showing up with checkers modified your vision for the rest of the bike... I've never had a moment like that.  [roll]

Markus

Thanks guys!

Well, I was never really sold on the checkerboard look as I always found it a bit of a cliche for cafe bikes. But I'm really happy that Mr. Local Triumph Dealer was misinformed and the Thrux fairing showed up as it did. The final product is pretty darn cool.

Ok ok, so I have a few more things to tidy up before it's officially done. [cheeky]

Ehhh, it looks good together, but makes the bike look too British to me...

Hey Markus... firstly, great job. Your bike looks amazing!

Secondly. How did you do the checker-boarding on the tank and tail?

Thanks!

I'll stop calling the build complete now  [laugh] [laugh]  Sorry guys.

To be honest, for a while I kind of lost interest in putting more time, effort, and money into the Monster after a third consecutive winter of upgrades and mods. However, I crashed the bike in June '08 and much of the the front end needed to be rebuilt as a result. I guess that renewed my interest in seeing it put back together the way I'd wanted to see it done all along.

Nakid - The fairing does change the look of the Monster and I can see where it might appear a bit too "British" for your taste. I personally like the look as I always saw the Monster as an updated version of the original "standard" twins of the '60s anyway. I can certainly see where the look might not be to everyone's preference. All good though and as my mother always said, "that's why there's chocolate and vanilla."

Thanks Dr Eti. I had a vinyl graphics company make up some decals in black and white checkerboard with silver borders to match the checkerboard that was already on the Thruxton fairing. The silver doesn't really turn out in the pics, but it's there. They're just long strips of checkerboard which I then put on the tank and cowl and trimmed where I needed to. Haven't clearcoated over the decals yet although I'll probably have that done professionally at some point.

The company which cut the decals is www.srsigndesign.com. I've dealt with Scott of SR Sign Design in the past and he always produced great quality decals for my other projects. I emailed him what I needed inc. dimensions, etc and what you see is what he came up with. I can definitely recommend him if you're looking for custom work.

Thanks Markus. Much appreciated... I have a similar, but much smaller project I want to do on my new M1100 black, that I get to pick up tomorrow!!!

I'll drop Scott a line once I've worked out exactly what I need... and eventually post pics if I don't screw it up.

Thanks again and happy riding!
