The Legitimacy of the DMF. or Can we make this work?

Ok, I'm no angel.
I've done my share of VS/DML bashing.
I posted things that got me banned.
I bragged about what I did.

Yes some of it was funny.
Yes, we needed to get the word out.

Now, with 1316 members as I type this, I feel we are becoming a legitimate Ducati Monster forum.

But how does it look when someone who has little to no knowledge of the pre VS/DML, when they come in here and see 20 threads devoted to bashing the DML, especially if they are coming here to learn about the Monster or get help with their bike.

If I were new to this GREAT COMMUNITY, I'd probably wonder how legitimate of an Owners Forum it was if all I read was bashing of another forum.

I am not happy with where the DML went, and I know many of you agree.  If we want this to become as great of a community as the DML once was, we need to get back to the basics.  We need to go back to talking about our bikes, helping each other with technical issues, selling/giving each other parts to get our bikes back on the road, posting ride pics with outstanding write-ups, and once in a while... giving each other a tough time.

I know our actions of late have bothered our "Flounders" (still find that funny), after all they put together for us to create a great forum... Shouldn't we show them that their efforts were not in vain, by creating yet another legendary Monster Owners Forum?

I think it's time we stop posting "Trash talking" threads and annoying the members that are happy there.  You know as well as I do, that with the wealth of knowledge we have assembled here, eventually they will come here out of necessity.  Would you want to feel alienated at a site before you ever got there?

I know there have been other threads similar to this one, but I felt I needed to say this for myself.

We're all adults here, or at least should be, lets act like it (except for NMC... that's the playground).

Ok, I think I've made as little sense as I could.  I'd just like to end this by saying thanks to: Statler, Duck-Stew, Mitt, Speeddog, Drunken Monkey, biglain and ducpainter... and anyone else who helped bring this site to be.   You guys have created a wonderful thing, and I hope I can help make this into the community that you envisioned.  [beer]

Thanks,
Wade

My apologies if some of this comes off as gibberish... it's late and I should be in bed!
I solve my problems like an adult, at the strip club drinking on a work night.

Couldn't agree with you more. The VS bashing will fade with time, like all the others that have come and gone i.e Engagement ring donations, 140 mph 620's etc etc.

We will get back to what we do well, being a great Monster (motorcycle) forum, helping others in need and most of all, getting together and riding. Better it be sooner rather than later.

As old as some of the negative posts can be and have become, one thing that needs to be remembered is that there were so many folks who had spent a very sizable amount of time on TOB, both lurking and contributing.  I think it is only natural, and reasonable, for some of these folk to feel upset of what became of their beloved forum.  With that in mind, they will go through a sort of grieving and healing time.  The negativity, like everything else, will come to pass in time.  Everyone just needs to be a bit patient is all.  After all, we are still basically in the "aftermath" of TOB's demise, and the infancy of the new site.

And a great big THANK YOU to our founding fathers for bringing us back to a spot where we can all be our own quirky selves again.

I think we are doing okay.

Lets focus on making this site GREAT and spend less energy at the VS Site  [thumbsup]

I think even "bothered" is a bit strong- it was inevitable, and it was understandable.

And this is also true. I'd personally decided that I'd give it a week (which'd be today) and if required, step in with a post asking you all to "simmah down a bit". As it turns out, you, the members, are doing me proud and starting these discussions yourselves - proving that "the community" we set out to save is indeed worth saving. Good on you guys! (and girls!)

Now get over and answer some questions in Tech or Riding Techniques or How-To or Gear or Accessories & Mods or Racing & Trackdays - or if you have no answers, ask some questions - we've "lost" a lot of great useful information from TOB, but they're only posts, and you guys have somehow managed to write over 18,000 of them in the last week, so it's clearly no big deal. Let's get out there and make this place into the sort of place we'd _want_ to hang around in!

Thanks again people,

big

We're all adults here

Dunno if I'm with you on that one, but everything else, +1

Let's all take a deep breath, & LET IT GO! Time to move forward  [thumbsup]

Now, let's all hold hands, and...  [evil]

Great place to hang, let's all keep up the good work  ;D

Preach the good word Reverend!

There are folks I miss (George fromt eh oil thread and sponsors), but it's also been a great culling of the DML herd.  I think, in general, those who cared a lot moved over to DMF and it's cool to be part of something new.

The venting/Bashing/sabotage is already tapering off.  It's natural that people were upset, I was.  Though I didn't go mucking with TOB since I was speding my time here, I sure got a laugh out of Chipos movie and some of the other shens.

People just need a little time to get over teh shock and get settled in here.  People will come to realize that this will be the place for real info on the Monster soon enough.  The bulk of the knowledge base came to this board, so as noted if people want the real goods, they will find there way here soon enough.

Now, get to posting tech and mod questions - so I can slack off work by lookin' at them and giving my opinions.

Hmm...well, I'm the posterchild for "ignorance is bliss" since my hatred for drama has prevented me from reading any of those bashing threads, or participating in the childish behavior that seems to be going on. I'm a lot happier for it too. [moto] In fact, my goal is not not look in the no moto content thread ever!

So yeah, grow up, move on, and talk about bike stuff! geez [roll]
