Alcohol is a mind altering substance...same as marijuana. You don't see the correlation...really?

Getting stoned every day makes you a pothead...getting drunk every day makes you an alcoholic. What's the difference? Likewise, ocassional use is just that...ocassional use. It doesn't make you a pothead or an alcoholic.

Like 'tizz said...the only difference between the two is that one is legal. Both used to be legal.

Yeah, weed, big deal. BUT, he is supposed to be a role model (for the kiddies) and is getting paid the big bucks from corporations that sponsor him and he in turn, supports & promotes their products. If his image is tarnished in any way, his sponsors may overlook his indiscretions once or twice, but if he keeps getting caught toking & smelling like bong water, they will dump him.

If he continues smoking chronic, I don't give a rats arse, doesn't affect me in anyway. 

He has got to be just a little more discreet.

+1.  Couldn't give a rats ass what he does personally.  What I see as the bigger mistake here is poor judgment. 

You're at a public party in a house of someone you supposedly don't know in an age where everyone has a camera phone and THIS is the place you decide to take a hit on a bong pipe as tall as your torso?  Dumb ass deserves anything that comes his way for this one - especially given his track record (underage drinking and DUI charge after the 2004 Olympics). 

Unlike pro athletes he wasn't endorsed just because he was good.   The image they went great lengths to sell and market was that of the All American boy, who works hard, loves his mom and has her by his side and is everything America expects from their Wheaties box heroes.  All of these contracts have "moral's clauses" which are essentially - if you do something dumb enough that it turns public perception we can stop paying you. 

He can do whatever he wants I just don't want to hear him or anyone else whine how unfair it is if/when his sponsors dump him.

No one...you have to read the second half of my response...occasional use.

If you have a drink it affects you. You may not be drunk, but it relaxes you...makes you feel good.  Therefore it is a mind altering substance. That is part of the reason people drink.

Same for taking a hit off the bong, or whatever. You can do it a bunch and get stoned, or just take a small one and relax. It's the same thing as having a drink in that regard.

Now you can say, no you don't drink to feel relaxed at all...you do it because you like the flavor and that's it.  If that's you argument, the same can be said for smoking marijuana, as there are many different types...just like tobacco.

The point is there is a negative stigma associated with marijuana use...which has been beat into us for decades by our govt. and the "war on drugs". It is mostly perpetuated and bought into by people who have zero personal experience with the drug, and who look at "potheads" for their proof of the drug's evil, neglecting the ocassional responsible user. Those same people would be outraged if only alcoholics were looked at when discussing alcohol and its affect on society, as most of them probably ocassionaly enjoy a drink. It is a double standard. The reality is the drug is essentially the same as alcohol.

...and for the record, I haven't smoked since I was in college...and even then I didn't do it much. BUT, I did do it enough to understand it...and if it was legal I'd probably use it now and again. It just isn't worth risking getting caught IMO.
