The hog is no biggie.

It's just that all the seals are metric and no one local had anything in stock.

I have to pull the slip clutch to get a good look at the seal to find numbers.

I have no doubt I can find one on 'the flea'.

Now the tractor is a different story.

It's a late 50's early 60's Massey with a 4 cyl diesel that is about as tired as a tractor can get and still run and do any work.

I can find most of the parts online from aftermarket suppliers, but have to tear it down to see what I need for sizes on the mains and rods. I'll probably have to have the crankshaft ground.

What is amazing is the amount of white smoke it produces.

When I first got it it had no thermostat installed. On a cold day, if it would start, unburned fuel would drip off the vertical exhaust.

I think the old timers used kero during the Depression to get by. Don't know what it did to the motors in the long run.

Dad's tractor is older than I am.  I think it will run on anything remotely combustible.  It's a Deere and I don't think it's ever seen a mechanic.  Ever.  Funny how the old stuff just works.

You start it on gas, by whipping the flywheel over, and then you can switch fuel tanks and it runs great on diesel.

One of the neighbors runs an oil company.  That old Deere ran on his "leftovers" (can't park an oil truck with anything in it overnight locally) for a number of years.  He'd dump whatever was in the truck in Grandad's diesel tank on the farm.

Considering it still runs and works after 50+ years with minimal maintenance...

I'd say that's spot on.

I have a nearly new Kabota that I'm part owner in. I keep it right up the street. My dues are only $47 for each hour i use it and I have a staff that maintains it.
