I took a welding class at the local city college, one of the best things I ever did.
Beyond that it's 99% seat time.

Woodshop, recent experience led me to LoL  [laugh]
Recently went to my HS 40th reunion.
Back in the day, low 4-digit tuition, now middle 5-digit.
Lots has changed, new buildings, old buildings renovated and such.
Went for a tour to see what it all looked like, led by the school's Salesman for Possible Students.
Salesman: "In this building, we have our Photography Lab and our Ceramics Studio."
Me: "Oh, cool, this used to be the woodshop when I was here."
Salesman: <Shoots me a look like I just suggested he should grope his wife in public>
Salesman: "And thru here, we have the Computer Lab...."
Heaven forbid they actually teach a practical skill.  [roll]

Ha!  And the photo lab likely instructs with each students' iPhone 11's.

;)

There are a few welding classes some friends and I have our eye on.  Could be dangerously fun.  All I need is time.

Oxy-Acetylene welding best to learn first.

With that skill, you can learn TIG.

Wire or stick welding, only learn that if you like being sprayed with molten metal and slag.
I've done enough of both to confirm that the charm of a blob of red-hot metal falling in the top of your boot fades quickly.

When I worked in the fab shop there was a welding station right outside my spray booth.

Mike, the welder had a Lincoln machine that did three processes. He did this one part with flux core .045 stainless on a turn table. He'd never stop the arc. His work looked like robotic welding you'd see on a propane tank.

Every once in a while you'd see a piece of spatter fly, and he'd very calmly, and quietly, say owwww...and just keep right on welding. [laugh]

I have been a AWS certified welder for 27 years, SMAW,GMAW,FCAW,(stick, Mig, flux core/dual shield) and
have lots of hours on TIG.  Built rock crushing and mining equipment to yard ornaments, loved every day
of it kinda, it is part skill and part art. There is a pride involved, raw steel to a functioning product, perfect
tested welds, I wish more young people were interested. Anyone who has learned to weld, on any level
understands the rewards.  Old eyes, burn scars, bad fumes, wish I would have quit sooner. Still love to fire
up the Miller and paint some beads, always will...

Good morning [coffee]

Not too bad at welding with a torch, with arc I could get things to stick together , but not pretty and would fail any test.

Morning.

I picked up Penny from karate the other day.

She got in the car and buckled in and sang out "I'm buckled!"

So I said "I'm buckled too!"

So she says "It's nice to meet you"

Little shit.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

morning...

It's still dead. [bang]

Did it die while operating or just not wake up?

My desktop winked out before my eyes a month ago, HD had gone bad.
Got the data recovered but it wasn't cheap.
