It's not as daunting as we make it sound...  As long as you pay close attention to what your right hand is doing, you'll do alright. ;)

It was great meeting "The Dude" at long last.   She brought us some epic beer.

Despite all the love vs hate regarding the looks of the bike the 999 is a really good scooter. They are very well made and a lot more adjustable than the new Duc sbks. I know the new line of sbks just kick butt but Ducati did cut some corners to save manufacturing costs. Duh. Who wouldn't want to do that? And they still are well built bikes. But the 999 is a special bike. It's kind of cool to see some of you guys reconsidering it and giving it a try. Sure it's different from your KTM, Monster, etc. because it's supposed to be. I have several different bikes and I like them all for what they are and what they do. What would be the point if they were all alike. Give them some time to grow on you and enjoy the riding time. Just make sure you get some thermal riding pants by summer time! [evil] [laugh]
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

I am actually quite good at conserving clutches... My Nissan Frontier pickup has 190,000 miles on it's original clutch!  ;D

I learned to drive from my dad who taught me how to heel/toe the gas/brake to match revs while downshifting.  I apply the same principles to the 999, especially since it doesn't have a slipper clutch.

As for accelerating, I find it easier to get off the clutch as soon as possible and use right wrist control to keep it smooth.  I only clutch 1-2, and 3-4-5-6 no clutch while accelerating hard.  Around town, I use the clutch 1-2-3 because the revs are so low, it's just a little smoother and easier.

Well...  I only got 17,000 miles on the OEM 900SS clutch, granted I have no idea what the previous owner did to it.  The M750 has around 34,000 on the OEM clutch and feels fine.

I saw a late 70s or early 80s (I think) BMW airhead with a "Battle of Legends" painted up tank.  Anybody know what that was?

Mine is almost ready to ride & take for an inspection.  My wife's Hawk is waiting on a fork seal.  Seems it's relocating it's fork oil to the front rotor & brake pads.  Once payday comes around, I'm ordering a new clutch for the 900SS
