Long story, basically brought about by the failure that is the military medical community.   For the last eight years I had been having repetitive injuries to my right wrist, which has always been diagnosed as a sprain.  It got pretty bad this last September, so I went back in and guess what, I have a sprain.  Only this time it never really seemed to get any better, so my doc sent me in for a serious of x-rays (this was nothing new, as my wrist had been x-ray'd at least a dozen times by now).  Luckily, this doc actually listens to his patients and decided to have the film reviewed by the senior radiologist at the hospital.  This person looked at the first slide and said (while pointing) "fractured scaphoid", followed by "oh, that looks pretty old".  As it turns out, my wrist had been fractured for all this time, but was continually miss-diagnosed.  As such, the bone never really healed and they are now worried that it might have become necrotic.  If so, it's surgery time. 
And the sugar fountain fairy swore so hard when she came to super-size that stale hope soybean; liiiike a homeless German woman. Who is this super-sizing spirit-crushing femme? And tell her I'll break a tree root up in her shrimp.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

Like I said, military medicine.  We really get the heavy clotted of the cream when it comes to our docs.  They are attracted by the fact that no matter how badly they F-up, they cannot face malpractice suits and never really have to compete to stay employed.
