TiNi, Honda makes the quietest generators.  Also the most reliable.  YMMV.

We've had 2 different Hondas, upgraded the first to a bigger one, at our summer house for 20 years.

*edit

Power just went out here (at work) for a few minutes in middle of typing ^^.

Hope you feel better Carlos.  That toll plaza looks like a cluster f**k.

well our neighbor doesn't have the Honda brand, I can hear that thing from inside my house and there's a football field worth of tress between us

I'm thinking of looking into getting a real generator too once any post Sandy rush on such items dies off.
I'll get something in the 5KW range and diesel or propane.

I have an old Coleman 4000w unit.

It runs the whole place...except my compressor.

Good to hear that our east-coast amigos are all accounted for (thus far)...

Been stupid-as-f*ck busy w/work and life these past couple months.  This time, though, I'm getting paid for it so that's good.

One of these little babies next to your house, your neighbor's generator will never bother you again!

[evil]

From what I have seen, the Generac home units do well.  (my experience limited to areas on stable grids, with no above ground power lines, so infrequent power outages)
It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

Costco has this one for around $2,500

10kw automatic switch over. That's a pretty good price.

Looks somewhat disorganized on this side of the toll booth. What's up with that?

look at the image .. . that going to the left there are only 2 booths and 'pre-paid' open ..  .the lines going to the left are leaving the city the ones coming to the right are coming into the city; note the p'up truck and taxi blocking one booth, cause the taxi hit the p'up from behind . . .then note the person dressed in orange or red redirecting traffic to another booth, also notice one taxi stuck in one booth . . .causing more confusion and anger and a lot of other stuff . .  people who use this road, usually pay to be stuck in traffic an average of 45mins to 90mins each way [that is mornings and evenings] . ..

Yes, this happens every day, but, paydays are usually like this and don't wait for December to arrive . . is worse !!!

Am I glad to work from home?  You bet !!!
